Whitby is a good place to visit as it as things for everyone. Plenty of good places to eat and drink. We try restaurants and cafes off the main drag these are usually not as busy and the quality is usually excellent.

There is so much to see and explore at Whitby; it is steeped in history (Captain Cook and the Abbey) and myth (Dracula). Not only does Whitby have its own attractions such as Pannett Park with its museum and a heritage trail around the town; it is ideal for visiting surrounding places of interest such as the picturesque, coastal villages of Sandsend and Staithes to the north, Robin Hoods Bay to the south and, inland, Goathland (Aidensfield in the TV series Heartbeat), which is on the heritage North York Moors Railway that runs from Whitby to Pickering. The station at Goathland is Hogsmeade in Harry Potter films.
There are cliff walks all along the Yorkshire coast (I have walked most of it) and a disused railway line walk/cycle track from Whitby to Scarborough that passes through Robin Hood's Bay.

Whitby is a clean and tidy town. Shops were not always open full time. However, did not hinder our experience.
Plenty of fish and chip restaurants available.

My wife and I have always loved Whitby.
My wife and I have always loved Whitby. A visit never lets us down and we always come away happy. In summer months Whitby gets very busy, too busy for our taste (old gits) so we visit early or late season when its not so busy. It's always nice to have a roam around places that we have visited before.
Terrys fish and chip bar looked after us very well. The lady there was very nice and the 2 young lasses serving on tables couldn't have been nicer. Full marks.
I bought the wife a pair of Jet earrings, as a momento, from Robinsons Jet. The lady in this Jet Jewelers was so nice. Shared history of Jet mining, of the shop she ran and off the range she had. I wish I'd asked her name but if you visit only one Jet jewelers - make it Robinsons.

Whitby provided us with a variety of things to do.
Whitby provided us with a variety of things to do. Many xcellent pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from. Some lovely walks through the cobbled streets plus of course the obligatory 199 steps to the Abbey as well as the Whalebone.
Excellent value for money, the room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Nice little touches of toiletries and tea /coffee make all the difference. The food was outstanding and the staff were exceptional, they even ordered newspapers to be delivered. Lovely lounge and bar if you didn't want to venture far. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again when we visit Whitby.
The Dolphin Hotel was very good. It
enjoys a great location to all Whitby town so we had no need for a car.
Super clean rooms, some with see views (not ours). A good English breakfast wa served in the dining area with a great view of the harbour so made up for the lack of room view.
Good hot shower, clean towels with soap / shower gel dispensers.
Mini kettle for tea and coffee making.
The location is brilliant, only a ten minute walk into Robin Hood's Bay. The hotel is on a good bus route with buses every 30 minutes into Whitby and Scarborough. The breakfast is very good with locally sought produce. Good choice on the menu. The bar food is very good also, serving meals till 9.00pm. The staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them.

A perfect stay in a very comfortable and beautifully maintained cottage. An easy 5-10 minute level walk into the centre of Whitby via the harbourside. Great for viewing the passing trains (don't worry, there is less than one an hour, if they aren't your thing!). Lovely views across to the harbour and up to the Abbey.
Bed was very comfortable and the food was very good.
The hotel had a large car park was very helpful - but the hotel is about 10mins walk downhill to the centre of Whitby (and therefore an uphill slog to get back).
The hotel is on a bus route to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay so you could get the bus if tired.
The location was very good where we were.
Just 5 minutes walk into Whitby
We managed to get a carparking space.
Which was a bonus.
Checking in and out was very good.
The staff are very friendly and very helpful and kind.
The hotel is very old but lovely at the same time
The breakfast was very nice.
The room had a very good view of the sea and well-placed chairs. The bed was comfortable. The man at reception was able to give us very helpful information about parking and the hotel also provided a limited number of spaces. The hotel is within walking distance of the centre of Whitby.
The apartment is fresh modern and exceptionally clean. All the facilities you could want. Comfy bed TV in main room and bedroom. We had a fabulous stay and will be recommending it to friends. Great location short stroll into Whitby. Parking nearby is free in winter when we visited.
Great location albeit a bit sleep - but that's Whitby.
Lovely house with much work done to it to a very nice standard.
Nice amount of parking space.
Lovely comfortable large bedrooms and very nicely decorated.
Hot tub very nice and immaculately maintained.
Great location
This hotel is exceptional, lovely friendly staff, super room, very comfortable, supplied with Elemis toiletries and lovely thick towelling robes. Excellent food served in the orangery with fabulous view over the bay. Great surrounding area, close to Whitby and Scarborough.
From the hotel quality bed to the modern bathroom and interesting decor alongside the friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts and the view of the Abbey make this the perfect place to stay for Whitby, Robin Hoods Bat and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Rooms are modern with good en-suite facilities. Bar and restaurant service was excellent. Great breakfast options.

Perfect location. Very clean and modern. Comfortable. Difficult to find any drawbacks. Hassle free enjoyable stay in the heart of Whitby. Just a few doors down from where Bram Stoker put pen to paper.
Spacious room, firm, very comfortable bed. Just far enough out of the center of Whitby to be quiet at night but close enough to walk everywhere. Lovely town to visit - would visit again.
