Whitby is a place that goes back in time. Lovely town with lots of little shops, cafes and pubs. Lots of boats and boat trips at reasonable prices. Lovely church and Abbey at the top of the 199 steps. Lots to do for young and older alike.

We absolutely loved Whitby - there is plenty to do even if It gets rainy with children - crabbing and lots of museums - we literally could of stayed longer than three days - you can day visit easily Robin Hoods bay or a coastal walk which is stunning. We found the fisherman’s wife to be a great place to eat it was quality produce. Don’t eat fish and chips before you go as
It’s full of those ha ha - we wanted different food and that was a little harder to find but we did -

Amazing Seaside Town full of history and charm.
Amazing Seaside Town full of history and charm. The Abbey is stunning, although overpriced (£39 for 2 adults and 1 child). I would highly recommend The Singing Kettle for breakfast. The best English Breakfast I have ever had!

Whitby was a pleasant surprise!
Whitby was a pleasant surprise! A quirky town, with plenty to see and do and a great place where to hike from. Over the bank holidays the town gets very, very busy so better visit during the off- peak season.

The old town is lovely and the fish chips & sea food are excellent at the magpie. There is is something for everyone from ghost walks, lots of pubs, fine dining, the history of Whitby as a fishing port, to the ruined abbey which dates back over a thousand years.
Whitby is on the edge of the rugged and brooding North Yorkshire Moors where you can visit Goathland the village where Heartbeat was filmed.
There also links to Captain Cook and the whaling industry and the beautiful architecture of the Georgian housing in the town to Victorian splendour of the Victorian hotels on the west cliffs.
There lots for kids to do from the arcades to the beach and crab fishing on the harbour.
Wonderful place.

Whitby Abbey was lovely (we're already English Heritage members so it didn't cost us anything) - the 199 steps were easier than I expected! The town was quite compact but hilly. A real mix of visitors and a million dogs. Heaving with people, even just after the Easter weekend. Lots of amusement arcade places and fish and chip shops, also jet jewellery, if those interest you. Nice to watch the boats and birds. Steam train every now and then. Small art gallery in the park; whalebone arch and Cook memorial. If we'd stayed longer we might have gone to the Cook museum. We also went to Goathland (station was Hogsmeade in the HP films) and Kirkham priory during our very short trip.
Arrived early and was able to park the car so we could take advantage of a full day in Whitby. Arrived up at the room after lunch, we were given the code to the door a few days prior to arrival. our room was fab it had a big bath in the room and was surprised to see it also had a shower. Lots of little complimentary bits, such as tea, coffee, milk, cereal bar, biscuits, bottled water, cans of pop, orange juice and porridge, shower to gel and bubble bath. This is our second stay and would definitely recommend. Thank you again for a lovely stay
The Duke of York is at the bottom of the steps which go up to Whitby Abbey, at the end of cobbled church street, it's therefore nice and quiet. The room was accessed by a separate entrance adjacent to a small beach. It was spacious, very clean and had a view across the harbour. Tastefully decorated in teal blue with lovely cream brick tiles in the bathroom. Very comfortable and didn't feel like a room in a pub. Dog friendly too.
We have just returned from a long weekend stay at the Resolution Hotel and we couldn’t have stayed in a nicer hotel, the staff were all helpful and friendly, the hotel rooms were spotless and the bar and resturant all well stocked, our breakfast each day was delicious - we have booked again for 2022 and can’t wait to return to Whitby - thank you to all the staff at the Resolution for making our stay a great one.
Travelled to Whitby for an over night stay with my 80 year old mum. We had separate single, sea view rooms, which were basic but comfortable and clean. Great view of the abbey and harbour. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice.
Great evening entertainment in the bar. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and efficient. Great location for walking down to the harbour and ample nearby parking.
We booked to stay at Lobster Hall on what turned out to be the hottest day in history. There was a fan provided without being asked which was a nice touch considering how warm it was. The hotel is very well located, about 3 minutes walk from shops and restaurants and included parking. The room was compact but clean and well laid out to use the available space. Staff were friendly and helpful as well.
The Dolphin Hotel was very good. It
enjoys a great location to all Whitby town so we had no need for a car.
Super clean rooms, some with see views (not ours). A good English breakfast wa served in the dining area with a great view of the harbour so made up for the lack of room view.
Good hot shower, clean towels with soap / shower gel dispensers.
Mini kettle for tea and coffee making.
The location can't be beaten, right on Whitby's harbour-side. Really large room with fabulous views although the stairs and corridors were a bit confusing to start with! (There's also a lift.) Being a Wetherspoon's hotel means that there's the convenience of a large dining area for breakfast and any other meals/snacks. Friendly, helpful staff on reception and in the bar.
This property offerred privacy and was better than most hotels or airbnbs that we have visited. It was decorated. It provided more than enough space due to having a living room and kitchenette and if I was going back to Whitby, I would not hesitate to return to the Loft.
Lovely little hotel in an ideal location- walking distance of Whitby harbour. We parked on the road outside and were given a scratch card to ensure free parking throughout our stay as the hotel car park was full.
Helpful and friendly staff that are very welcoming!
Really enjoyed our stay. After completing the Endurancelife trail race in Ravenscar the hotel pool and spa facilities were perfect!
Staff all friendly and helpful.
Out of town but it is walkable to Whitby and lots of bus stops.
The hotel is right in the middle of the amusement section of town. Not as nice as the other side but there were some good restaurants.
The view of Whitby as you drive into town is beautiful and the Abbey ruins were stunning.
Perfect location in the center of Whitby. Close to the train station, the shops, restaurants, the Whitby Abbey and the beach.
Big room, pretty and very comfortable. The host made sure we had everything for our stay.
Breakfast was perfect, room was clean, spacious and had exceptional views, location fantastic, hosts welcoming and friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Whitby. Perfect weekend break.
The room was spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean, as was the well thought out ensuite We had a lovely view of Whitby Abbey.
All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel had a lift.
Really lovely hotel and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The location was perfect, literally a few minutes walk from the harbour. Great value for money. The room was massive!! and very well equipped.
It was a self-catering, two-bedroom flat in a secure building within a few minutes' walking distance of Whitby town centre and harbour. The flat came with an underground parking space for the car.
The room was very spacious and the welcome from the staff was great. The position of the hotel, along with parking, was excellent for walking to Whitby and enjoying food at the local pub.
It was a 1-2 mile walk from Whitby. It was dog friendly, the room was clean and very comfortable, and the staff were helpful. The breakfast was very good
