Location fantastic, very close to the Minster and city centre

Very central location to York attractions and shopping. Well stocked mini bar and snack/ drink options in the reception area. Short taxi/uber ride to the train station.

Excellent location - right in the heart of the shopping district.

Fun location, our room was large and very comfortable

Very difficult to find and had to park 1/2 mile from hotel. Web site should have available maps and possible driving and walking app for access thru the different old city gates. Restricted vehicle access has its advantages and disadvantages.

The location is fantastic. The quirkiness and the features and stories the building told. The rooms are large. Each room tells the history of the building in art and detail.

Location and quirky nature of the rooms with lots of history

We liked the quaint feel of the property. We felt like we were staying in an authentic York Inn. The staff were so helpful with all of our questions.

The rooms are actually a fabulous size, the beds are very comfortable, the rooms are extremely clean and the location is phenomenal.

This was within the pedestrian zone, so access to the town center was superb. Best nights sleep in quite awhile. Ver clean and warm.

Property info
In eighteenth century York, as in the rest of England, county courts held by magistrates dealt with civil and criminal matters—from licensing to petty theft. More serious crimes were referred on to the Assize courts where a jury and professional judges sat in judgement. These high-ranking judiciary figures, often aristocrats, knights of the realm or holders of government office, came to York twice a year in March and in August to sit. From 1720 to 1806, the lodging for these visiting judges was a smart Georgian townhouse in the very centre of town: Judges’ Court. In these eighty years or so, the judiciary who passed through Judges Court saw more than two hundred criminals convicted and hung at the Knavesmire in York. The most celebrated case tried by one of the residents of Judges’ Court, was in 1739 when Judge William Chapple convicted a Wakefield man of horse-stealing. The man he sentenced to hang was John Palmer, but his real name was Richard Turpin—Dick Turpin. This once grand building slowly declined before we bought it in 2013 and restored it to it's former glory with Judges Court welcoming it's first guests in November 2014.
Neighborhood info
