Been to Torquay regularly down the years, but we missed last year due to other commitments. Couldn't believe the change. What has happened to the town? It is a dishevelled, shabby place. Now full of beggars, roadworks, and boarded up shops. Thoroughly depressing and I'm so sad to say that I will not be returning. It is a ghost of what it once was, the jewel in Torbay. Couldn't wait to leave..

Pleasant seaside situation, somewhat run down town centre, plenty of restaurants, very hilly, parking is a nightmare and at the moment there is reconstruction going on in the middle of town. It has a charm of a sort and some nice walks if fit. There is a reasonably good bus service to take you to other local towns - Dawlish, Teignmouth, etc - and there are quite a few beaches although as we visited in April and had a planned reason to stay we didn't visit any. Visitors need to choose their hotel carefully - we saw some examples of what might politely be called faded buildings.

Selection of museums to check out at a small cost. There is a lot to see if you have time. The Agatha Christie Mile. Torquay happens to be the birth place of this Legend . Unfortunately our stay was short as this would be definitely on our agenda to do.

Torquay is a typical seaside resort & has something for all ages and it's easy to get around by car, bus or on foot. Bygones museum at St. Marychurch is well worth a visit & Cockington Village has to be seen, especially on a warm sunny day.

Torquay is very run down with a lot of homeless people.
Torquay is very run down with a lot of homeless people. Bad roads, poor surfaces and many potholese. Very expensive parking. Parking at 6.30pm to 7,15pm cost £5. Excessive for the town centre when all the shops are closed and only parking for 45 minutes. I live in a very expensive area of SW London where parking is a fraction of that price.

We know Torquay well as we have family there, but we are fond of it anyway. The beaches are fantastic, there are several good restaurants and the bars around the Harbour are good for an evening out. If you have young children then I can’t recommend the Model Village enough!
Brilliantly run hotel helpful and polite staff clean and tidy comfortable rooms breakfast has plenty of flavour and quality not like the over priced Premier inn choice . Lounge area is very relaxing and I would highly recommend for business or travel . Shame that Torquay town centre is so run down with closed shops and down and outers begging for money . The government seriously need to spend some tax payers money for regeneration in this area shame really as the Hilton is a quality establishment
The hotel was excellent value for money. It was a bit dated but clean and comfortable and my room with en suite exceeded my expectations - very clean, the bed very comfortable and it was nicely warm.
The staff were very friendly as were the other guests.
The location was out of the way and nicely quiet but just a ten minute walk to the centre of town which, for me, was ideal.
I'm back in Torquay next year and may well book the Ashley Court again.
Definitely recommended.
Having stayed here a number of times before we knew of its excellent value. It is one of the most inexpensive hotels in which to stay, but our price included delicious breakfasts and evening meals all to buffet style (which we prefer) offered by friendly, helpful staff. Unless you are looking for 5 star luxury, then we would thoroughly recommend the Trecarn for the best value in the Torquay area.
We liked everything about this gem in Torquay.
The hotel was very clean which is a big thing for me. Our suite was amazing with everything you could need. The bed was comfy, all decorated really tastefully. The staff were fab, very friendly, polite and kind. Breakfast was so good!!
The pool looked great, and there was a bar too.
In walking distance of the Town.
Thanks so much we will be back!
terrible - i was moved to this hotel but did not stay there as it did not meet my requirements - I contacted the hotel before my stay and told them it was not suitable. They confirmed a refund of my payment would be made however they are now telling me they will not issue a refund - you can't speak to anybody on a local basis - and they fob you off - absolutely do not care about their customers
The hotel is a good location with a good setup. They are 3 hotels all together. Two indoor swimming pools one really big one and an outdoor pool. They even have a games area with pool tables, bowling lanes and arcades. It's almost like a mini complex, great for kids. They have taken covid seriously with one way systems, and pre booked sittings for breakfast.
The hotel is about a 10-minute walk to Torquay's main shopping streets. Free on-site parking or, if that's full, in the street outside. Friendly, welcoming proprietors. Large, clean and comfortable room with ample supply of tea/coffee. Fast Wi-Fi in the room - 28Mbps up/down. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Would definitely stay there again.
I managed to get a very good room but absolutely everything about the hotel was extremely good. I'd certainly recommend it if you want somewhere to stay in Torquay. It may not necessarily be the most upmarket of places, although I didn't notice this at all and thought it excellent, but do take that into account if you're looking for something else.
The most perfect stay for a winter break for my partner and I. We loved the spa it was the best such great facilities and so relaxing. The hotel has a nice lounge and dining area. It is a short walk to Torquay and we loved walking around the harbour. Highly recommend this hotel worth the money!
The hotel staff were welcoming and attentive, ensuring our stay was comfortable and memorable. I would highly recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone looking for a touch of luxury during their visit to Torquay. We spent plenty of time in Town with the hotel's location being really convenient.
Beautiful Boutique hotel with a unique design. The hosts were very friendly and helpful they showed us the best places to visit in Torquay. The location of the hotel was very close to the English Riviera. Many options for breakfast including vegetarian. It was very pleasant to stay there.
Breakfast was very good with a great variety of choices. The grounds were very pretty and the hotel was very quiet! Staff was super friendly and it was pretty nice that it is an adults only hotel. We would stay here again.
Hotel is in a great location right on the beach front in the centre of Torquay which is fantastic! The bed was super comfy and our room was relatively spacious.
