The harbour area is lovely to wander and pause for a coffee. The beach has an extended walk way, but it's mostly a pebble beach. There's an open air swimming pool for warmer months, and several places to eat including excellent fish and chips! The area around the market square has a lovely range of small independent shops to explore.

Stonehaven is a beautiful seaside town located just twenty minutes by train south of Aberdeen. I can highly recommend visiting the old town siuated around the harbour and old pier which by far are the most attractive parts. Also highly worth visiting is Dunnotter Castle which is just thirty minutes walk south of the town. On the way to the castle you pass a war memorial atop of a hill which is also worth a visit. I also visited Dunnotter Church. Unfortunately the chutch itself was locked, however the graveyard was very peaceful and picturesque. And as a bonus Stonehaven claims to be the birthplace of the battered Mars Bar, which you can sample if you so wish...

We visited Stonehaven to experience the Fire Ball event at Hogmanay. This is the second time we have been and it most definitely did not disappoint. It was fabulous.
It is quite a small town and over New Year a lot of restaurants and pubs were shut but this is to be expected.
We really liked the Ship Inn at the harbour and the Market Inn on the Market Square. There were a couple of nice gift shops and easy access to the beach.
There is a bus running between Stonehaven and Aberdeen which we would have taken had we more time. There is also a castle close by (you would need a car).
The locals are really friendly and make you very welcome.
Overall I would recommend Stonehaven and look forward to returning in the better weather to experience more of what is on offer.

The beach looked great but it wasn't too warm.
The beach looked great but it wasn't too warm. The castle is a bit of an uphill struggle, however there is a bus. Unfortunately if you suffer from vertigo it probably won't be for you.
We've been told that it is great for watching dolphins and seeing the Northern lights unfortunately we didn't see either but it is a great place to go. We'll certainly be back.

It’s a lovely friendly town , plenty of cafes and individuals shops . It has a good beachfront and you can walk to the castle . We enjoyed the walk but found the actual castle a bit underwhelming and it’s quite expensive for a family , it doesn’t have a cafe or gift shop and the toilets left a lot to be desired , when we go back we’ll just do the walk and take a picnic for down at the beach . The kids loved the park beside the leisure centre and Aunty Betty’s ice cream shop was a hit
Our host Fiona was so lovely able to tell us a lot about the surrounding area and always there to help when needed. The highlight for our daughters was seeing the horses every morning from the window. They even enjoyed their ride on Atlas and Arron, lead by Chloe and her colleague who were fantastic. It is the perfect place outside from bustling Stonehaven but with in walking distance. A 5min drive to the must see Dunnottar castle. A big thank you to Fiona for hosting us and we look forward to coming back.
The owners were incredibly friendly, responsive, and treated us like family. As soon as we arrived, they knew exactly who we were and met us with big smiles and the husband quickly helped us carry our bags up to our room. The house has super thick walls and floors - providing a reasonably quiet environment to relax (and sleep!). We had a late train the day we were leaving, and the owners were super helpful in letting us rest in the lounge area a bit before our final departure from the house.
Hotel was happy to discuss arrival time, I was travelling a distance. Professional and efficient on arrival. Comfy room, wasn't ensuite but I was aware. Bar open and friendly, it had been a long day.
Good location for travelling north on the A90, onward to Aberdeen the next day.
Hadn't stayed in Stonehaven before so discovered the castle that someone at home had told me about, and learnt a bit about the town, which I enjoy. Petrol and sandwiches next morning at the M & S garage.
The on site facilities with horses and everything were excellent we were even able to watch a horse jumping competition it was great. The staff were excellent so friendly and would do anything for you. Only five minutes into the beautiful wee town of Stonehaven and Aberdeen only about twenty minutes up the road. Couldn’t fault this site in anyway as two grans with two grandchildren it was excellent.
We have stayed at the Station Hotel in Stonehaven many times and are always very happy with our stay. The staff is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful. My husband got THREE poached eggs and my cheese omelette was delicious.
This time we got a triple room for the same price as a double which gave us the extra space.
Apartment was excellent. Had everything you needed and some lovely extras. It is very well decorated and extremely comfortable and clean. Added bonus of private parking space. The location is ideal just minutes walk to beach , harbour, town and walks. We would definitely stay here again if visiting Stonehaven again.
Great short stay in Stonehaven. Came from Aberdeen for an event and due to weather decided to stay the night instead of driving back. Very wise decision.
Hotel in great location! Comfortable ( a bit small) double room. Very lively and well stocked bar. Great choices for breakfast. Very pleasant staff.
Great location to walk around Stonehaven, free street parking. We didn't realize there was a washer on site and were pleasantly surprised as we were about 7 days into our trip and our clothes needed to be washed. Great breakfast, clean space. Host was very communicative on check in, check out, etc.
Ideal location for exploring the area. In centre of town and close to shops ,harbour and beach. Shannon was lovely, helpful and chatty.
The hotel stay was Cheap and cheerful , beds were clean, towels were new and fluffy, kettle, tea, coffee and bottled water provided.
We never saw anyone in the reception area, no matter when we passed by, but the bar employees were very helpful. We liked the breakfasts. One of our rooms (#14) had a very nice view. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was quite nice and big.
the location is as good as it gets. set 1 row back from the harbour front to alleviate any noise when it gets busy.
the cottage has a great feel to it, with a cozy fireplace and comfortable living quarters
Our room was overlooking the harbour with stunning views, the hotel is handy to the coastal path for the castle. The food is great and the staff are friendly and very efficient. we enjoyed our stay.
Its a lovely spot in Stonehaven to stay plenty warking to be done the the staff at the ship inn our friendly and helpful the rooms in the ship inn have all you need and have nice sea, views
Everything really..the home was beautiful. Two large bathrooms, two bedrooms and a wonderful living area. The kitchen had all we needed and more along with an extra little gift.
The room with the view to the sea was lovely and the breakfast was exceptional. The hosts were friendly and gave us information about the area and restaurants.
