Lyndhurst is a great place to stay for exploring the New Forest. It has a good mix of interesting shops and restaurants and a good sized car-park in the centre.
That said, it can get very busy and there can be traffic queues in high-season since it is a bit of a bottleneck. So I'd recommend visiting slightly off-season.

What let it down for us was the lack of options for gluten free breakfast no cereals no fruit no yogurts then when we did get breakfast it was cold toast rock hard it wasn’t even busy only us two for breakfast
We wanted to order gluten free fish and chips but fryer broken so was limited on evening options but what we did order was tasty I must say I was impressed by the staff knowledge on g/f intolerance and allergies.

Lyndhurst has some interesting shops particularly the antiques emporium and some nice pubs and restaurants and the Anglican church of St Michael's where the original Alice who was the model for ''Alice in Wonderland''was buried.
I went to the Passage to India Indian restaurant which is quite near to the Penny Farthing hotel.
There is a Ferrari showroom if you want to check them out but the cars are very expensive.

It is a lovely village, full of character.
It is a lovely village, full of character. It was the fourth, or fifth, time we have stayed in, or around, Lyndhurst. There are great shops, cafe's, restaurants and pubs. It is small enough to comfortably walk around. We ate in "The Forage, which is a modern Italian style restaurant with a very good menu selection. The only issue is that Lyndhurst is a focal point for all the roads into and out of the NewForest, which often leads to long traffic queues into and out of the village. However, the main road through is one way, which makes it easier for pedestrians to cross.

Lyndhurst is a wonderful village and just the right distance to really lovely walks in the New Forest. Shops, pubs and restaurants mostly dog friendly and offer a nice range of foods. Love the antiques shop at the top of the village, welcoming and some great nic naks if you've the time to have a snoop!

Great town with all the amenities plus gift shops.
Great town with all the amenities plus gift shops. Locals are friendly. Surrounded by walks into the New Forest and just 20 mins from the coast. Busy with traffic its as a main route through this area.
The staff were all great, public rooms are lovely, gives a real sense of history and lots of cosy areas to sit in. The location is beautiful and I'd like to return in the summer when the garden is in flower. Due to one of our grandsons testing covid positive they could not join us, the hotel have generously offered us a voucher to use in the next 12 months to cover the cost of the non refundable family room. We're look forward to visiting Bartley Lodge again. Enjoyed being met on arrival by a New Forest pony at our car window.
This Hotel is very friendly and they pay particular attention to your dog. We had three breakfasts in the morning, 2 human and one large plate of sausages for our dog. Completely unexpected and he loved every mouthful. Room was lovely, clean, comfortable and beyond our expectation. Definitely will be returning to stay and hopefully have the roast for all 3 of us!
We had dinner the night before and the food was fantastic. Once again this was beyond our expectation and would return just to eat there again.
Beautiful house with 3 bedrooms available. Owners helped bring the luggage to the rooms upstairs. Entrance is more or less private as the rest of the house can be, and is closed off. Breakfast was great, cooked to order, and the owners Nick and Judith spent some time chatting with us about their business location is perfect. The main street of Lyndhurst is very picturesque with lots of shops and restaurant from which to choose. Avalon house is just a 5 minute walk away. Would absolutely stay here again.
Lovely staff, Debbie showed us to our room on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed, Katie was very friendly and helpful if we needed anything.
LOVED how housekeeping DIDN'T unnecessarily change our towels. All too often hotels have the "consider the environment..." notice but STILL change neatly folded towels. Well done White Rabbit.
The location, within easy walking distance of Lyndhurst's fabulous food outlets, also has great parking for our classic cars.
The breakfast was excellent and the hotel was situated well to all the amenities of Lyndhurst. Only drawback was the amount of traffic, especially if you were turning right coming out of the property with traffic lights at the top of the hill and going down through the village, but hey ho it was holiday time, at least it means people are holidaying in this country and you got used to it.
We were well looked after and staff were very attentive. My wife is disabled although access was not the best, with the help of the staff this was not a problem. I have been coming to Lyndhurst for many years but this was the first time we had stayed at the Stag. We will be back again next year. Good value for money and a very pleasant stay. Many thanks to the Stag.!!
It was close enough to the main streets of Lyndhurst. Everything within walking distance. Everything needed was supplied, the room is clean, bed comfortable, enough drawers and cupboard for our things and coffee and tea facilities are nicely presented in the room. The breakfast was worthy of any good hotel and the hosts are very attentive.
The hotel had a nice atmosphere and the staff were excellent. It was my wife’s birthday and chocolates and a card were in the room as well as a tile decorated with Happy Birthday on the dinner table. Nice touch.
The manager was visible and hands on. Obviously leads by example. The dinner was good and the breakfast excellent.
We were Married at The Bell, the Hotel was superb. but the main thing that we both felt was that ALL the Staff went above and beyond to make our day very special. In the run up to the wedding, we visited several times, and on several occasions we ate in the Hotel. There was not once that we dint receive the best of service.
Great location on the edge of Lyndhurst town centre, one of the nicest towns in the New Forest. We received a warm welcome from the charming and very helpful host. We arrived on one of the hottest days of the year and our room had been cooled by having the curtains closed - a nice touch.
The bungalows are apart from the hotel proper, so afford a high degree of privacy. And the location, on the edge of Lyndhurst, with a five-ten minute walk into town, suited us too.
Furthermore, I left something in the bungalow, but after a phone call, management posted it straightaway.
We missed breakfast due to time change but staff cooked us up something quick anyway. They couldn't have been more helpful. Short walk into Lyndhurst which has everything you need. Would definitely go back. Five stars.
As a single traveler this hotel was welcoming and safe. I stayed in a single room which was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was really good. Would recommend a stay.
Location was great, 2 min walk in Lyndhurst and far enough from the main road to enjoy a peaceful lie in.
Lovely walk in woodlands for your dog & the hotel was exactly what they said, and dog friendly.
