About Magpies Lodge
Thanks! You'll receive an email as soon as the property answers your question.
Magpies is a 300 year old barn, moved and renovated in early 1980s. It has been extended and since taking it over, we have made improvements to make it a homely, welcoming space for guests to relax. . There are three rooms, all different but all as comfortable with the same facilities and a lovely summer garden, a pool, various terraces and courtyards. The gardens overlook fields where you can see dairy cattle, pheasant, deer and visiting swifts nest in the property. There is a guest lounge/dining room and a selection of dvds, games and books for those who want to hunker down and chill in the winter. Just ask if you would like hot chocolate or cocoa. We have two springer spaniels as part of the household, partly for security but mostly because we love them along with seven chickens which are still providing a good number of fresh eggs each day. Magpies likes to provide a bit of home away from home but you don't have to cook, tidy or wash up so you can still have that holiday feeling. Please note that we cannot accept guest dogs except assistance dogs. There are several sheds on the property which we use to store bikes and we do provide a bit of TLC for walkers too.
We are Kevin, Jane and Philippa, Kevin has his own business and Jane runs Magpies. Pip does her own thing. Am Dram and shows feature very much in our lives, singing, acting ,directing and all things thespie (but not luvvy). We are NT and EH members, don't get out as much as we would like but have all the local information. We do try to walk the dogs regularly and are happy if guests want to tag along. Jane likes gardening and attempting to grow vegetables which survive being trampled sometimes. We use the pool in summer and love to entertain with barbeques on the deck. Guests are welcome to join in as long as they share the chores as well.
Slinfold is a small village with a pub, church, school and shop. Brighton, Worthing, Arundel, Chichester and other small coastal resorts are around 40 minutes drive away. The Sussex weald and downs are driveable to get to walking paths. The downs link (old railway line from Shoreham to Guildford) runs through the village and is very popular with walkers and cyclists. There are many gardens and trust properties within a decent day out. Petworth is a particular favourite with its deer park, lovely house and exhibitions. Horsham is market town with stall and street food on Thursday and Saturday. There are many high end shops including John Lewis, lots of restaurants, cafes and bars, some lovely old houses and a great pedestrian centre which really buzzes in summer, day and night. There is a theatre /cinema, rail links to London Victoria and a good supply of taxi firms to get about. Parking is free after 8pm in the town (each car park has its own closing times.) There are many good pubs and eating places in surrounding villages .We are compiling a list from guest recommendations.
