We didn't actually see much of Hayfield, but the bar in the hotel was a perfect local retreat.
We didn't try the food, apart from breakfast, because we were having a friends reunion at a different location.
I do know that Hayfield is an excellent place for walking and outdoor pursuits.

Beautiful location and with lots of walking options nearby!
Beautiful location and with lots of walking options nearby! It's possible to walk to Kinder Scout from there, so we didn't drive much. The cottage was very well equipped, characterful and clean.

Hayfield is an interesting village and worth a walk around, A number of hikes can start here and it is easy to get into the dales and the peak district. There are good facilities in the village if you are in self catering.

Hayfield is a great place to stay and has lots of walks around the peak district. We had a great meal at The Sportsman's Inn, a 10 minute walk from the centre, but advise booking. Perfect for a walking holiday.

The George Hotel is ideal for a short break or a 'couple of nights'.
What particularly irritates me is some of the negative feedback people give -- It is a 16th century building, a country hotel: What do some people expect? The Ritz?
As I always say: It is MORE than adequate for the price -- If you want the Ritz, go and pay the price and stay there. You won't get Savile Row for a tenner, I always say!
Hayfield is a great location for walking in the Peak District and has a decent selction of pubs and eateries for food and beer once the walking is done. Millie's is smack bang in the centre which is great, and the owner's cafe downstairs is absolutely cracking. Room was what you would expect for the price - not flash, but clean & tidy, comfortable and good wifi and TV channels. The host was lovely; proper customer service with nothing too much trouble.
Very good location in the centre of Hayfield village. Owner kindly allowed early bag/food drop off. Parked outside The George Hotel pub opposite; it serves a good Guinness. Spent two wonderful days walking to Kinder Scout and Edale; trails start just a short distance from the property. Cottage has very adequate cooking and bathroom facilities. Sit on the balcony and appreciate the views yonder.
Beautiful character cottage in a fantastic location in Hayfield. Great views. Ideally suited to a couple, given the size, but also the fantastic copper bath in the master bedroom! Parking was very easy - with plenty of space to be found on the road opposite the cottage.
The location of the property is fantastic for walkers you can walk from your door up to Kinder Scout and back. There is a pub at the end of the lane which serves fantastic food (except in a Monday it’s closed) you can walk into hayfield and you can walk up Lantern Pike.
We were so well looked after by the owners. Really welcoming and helpful. Our scrambled eggs for breakfast were just delicious. Perfect location for enjoying Hayfield and the hills. Would definitely stay again.
Perfect little cottage in a great location for exploring the Peak District.
Set in the friendly village of Hayfield, good pubs, coffee shops and local stores.
Everything we could need for a stay away.
Lovely house with comfy beds and all facilities you need. A short walk to Hayfield and a nice pub with good food just a couple of hundred metres away.
I loved being so near great walking!
The staff were very helpful and the location was perfect for the wedding we were attending at Upper House Hayfield. The breakfast was tasty and the rooms were good.
Great value for money considering the hotel is in the high peak area, and with a good breakfast included as well. The view from my window was exceptional.
Good evening meal with many choices including home prepared. Full breakfasts very good.
Good location for access to Hayfield and surrounding countryside.
