In no special order, here’s just a flavour of what’s on offer: There’s the Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, a stunning 853 acres of ancient gill woodland, heathland, grassland and some 5 kilometres of dramatic sandstone cliffs and coastline. If ancient castles are your thing, then East Sussex doesn’t disappoint; as well as Hastings’ own castle, there’s the enchanting 15th Century moated Hersmonceux Castle, Rye Castle Museum and Eypres Tower, and the spectacular Bodiam Castle near to several noteworthy gardens and organic vineyards.
