Our first time in Ullapool, but it won't be the last time...

Our first time in Ullapool, but it won't be the last time there and we will definitely stay at "The Wreck" or "The Ruin" on our next trip. The location is right beside the Sea Loch about 1-mile north of Ullapool on the A835 (probably walkable in the longer daylight). On our first night into Ullapool we came across a great "dog friendly" pub/restaurant called The Ceilidh and we liked the place and the friendly staff and a good menu - we ate there each evening. The houses in Ullapool are laid out in a fishing village style and east to get around ... hunting down the Tesco Food Store was a challenge So i had to use Google Maps (lol). Sadly, visiting Ullapool in Late February means that many place are closed but there was enough to occupy us, and of course plenty to do in and around the area: * Ullapool Hill * The Bothy Cafe every morning (you can sit in too) * The Ceilidh Pub each night * Northerly road trips to: - Scourie Bay - Balnakeil Bay - Durness - Smoo Caves * Southern and Western road trips to: - Applecross - Corrieshalloch Gorge (is a must do)

Ullapool surprised us, it was not as big as we expected but, that is not a negative, it is a beautiful little town. We had the best fish and chips from a take away. We bought books in a lovely book store near the hotel. The people are lovely and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there in a beautiful hotel.

Ullapool is a quiet and charming village set on a harbour...

Ullapool is a quiet and charming village set on a harbour where the Stornaway Ferry departs twice a day. It is a very picturesque spot. People are very friendly. The Caladonian hotel has a good restaurant and a lovely tearoom for lunches and snacks. There are several places to enjoy local seafood. I stayed at the Millview B&B which was a short walk from the ferry, and walking distance to the local supermarket. It was a great place and Dawn was a terrific host. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed and bedding were very comfortable.

Pretty little village. Gateway to the isles via the ferry.

Pretty little village. Gateway to the isles via the ferry. Locals were friendly. A great outdoor shop (Ullapool Outdoors) with good walking and camping gear at reasonable prices. Not many coffee shops to be had. It has a supermarket which is very useful. Very few other shops. Some lovely eateries. Also a great place to see the surrounding area.

    A lovely little town.

A lovely little town. Very helpful staff at the museum, with great tips on how to spend time in the area. As a result got to attend Chicken Day at Elphick! An absolute delight. The Museum itself was very interesting. Loved the bars at the Argyll and at the Ferry Boat Inn.

Ullapool is quaint popular place with a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. We found that most places closed around 5. We were able to get a meal in a local hotel. We were lucky to see a lovely sunset across the harbour.

Staff all lovely. We were warmly welcomed and offered shortbread cookies and a dram of whiskey which was a lovely touch. Check in was quick and easy. Our room, while small (which I knew on booking) was beautifully decorated and had everythg we needed. Bed very comfortable. Shower pressure great and lots of hot water! Beautiful location with great views and an easy 5 minute stroll into Ullapool. Breakfast good. Lots of choice. Staff happy to help and very attentive. This is a hidden gem of a hotel.

The staff were friendly the breakfast was great especially considering it was included in the room price. Considering it is rated as a 2 star hotel, it is pretty much what you'd expect. Rooms were adequate, everything worked, shower was fine. At that price and 2 stars it's not going to be super luxury so don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We were stopping for a night on route to another destination and it served it's purpose as a stopover.

Does what it says on the tin - not overly expensive and rooms reasonable, though very dated. If you're looking for a luxury place to stay this isn't it, but it's well located and perfectly fine for a few nights, especially given it's hard to get accommodation in Ullapool. Breakfast was very good and a buffet which was handy for us as we had a big day's cycling ahead! Hotel also provided secure bike storage. Felt very secure with Covid rules being followed.

As described Ardlair is a really well appointed B&B, with wonderful views over Loch Broom. The room was very clean and glamorous on a par with a 4 star hotel. Due to current COVID restrictions there wasnt a breakfast available but there was an option for a continental meal and plenty of breakfast snacks and coffees. I loved the wee decanter of whisky, much needed after a long drive. Thank you for a great place to base our break in Ullapool.

Ideal location with great views. Whether you’re doing the NC500 or catching a ferry from Ullapool, highly recommend staying at No8 Croft. Host was friendly, welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Room was very clean and comfortable, great nights sleep. Perfect poached eggs on toast for breakfast, or you could have opted for fresh fruit salad or porridge. Highly recommended, we look forward to visiting again. Jenny & Mike R

Very friendly staff and allowed me to store my luggage before check-in and after check-out. I last stayed here 15 years ago and it wasn't as nice as it is now. Although there are bunk beds, the mattresses were comfortable. It is the most reasonable in terms of nightly rates to stay in Ullapool now, especially most of the other hotels and B&Bs have put their rates up to about 110%.

This was my fifth stay in this small hotel. They provide a great breakfast to start the day. The hotel is in a quiet location on the edge of town, perfect for an uninterrupted sleep. Excellent facilities in room and beautifully clean. The bed was so comfortable. Parking right by the entrance. I've stayed in several hotels in Ullapool and this is by far the best I've experienced.

Excellent location within walking distance of the centre of Ullapool Warm welcome from Philip on arrival Lovely room, spacious and clean (although there was a sloping ceiling which may be a problem for very tall guests!) There was a problem with payment (we paid twice!) but this was very quickly resolved as soon as we realised and brought it to Philip's attention

The staff was exceptional! We had car issues and Molly let us use her phone to sort it out. The next day they let us sit in the dining room after we checked out to wait for a car tow. The location was excellent and the rooms were clean and updated. The bar was fun and busy, and the food in the restaurant was outstanding! We highly recommend The Arch Inn!

A really nice hotel on Ullapool’s harbour front. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the harbour. The bar was full of locals when we were there, which is a good sign and had a great buzz. The food in the restaurant was excellent, although we only stayed one night. The hotel is perfect for the Stowaway ferry which is literally only 2 minutes away.

Hotel perfectly located just off A835. Great views over Ullapool . A warm friendly welcome and my request for sunshine was granted and the additional request to see an Eagle was granted at 06.50 the following morning ! The breakfast was excellent quality and the choices were top rate making this a top quality hotel and warrants a repeat visit for sure.

The location was okay, with a 15 minute walk into Ullapool. Ullapool itself was rather uninviting, perhaps due to roadworks on the main road, very overpriced e.g £19.99 for fish and chips. The hotel was very clean and the duvet was particularly soft and comfortable. There was lots of choices of teas and coffees in the room and welcome treats.

Perfect B&B in perfect location, close to everything in Ullapool but set on a quiet, leafy street. Big, comfortable room, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Imaginative touches include real milk available in the lounge, woodburner lit on request and a selection of single malts for guests to try. Fabulous breakfast.
