Liked Haltwhistle been before , Good Centre for the Roman Wall experience, Would recommend to anybody. Also could leave you car as there is a good bus service in the Town to Newcastle Alston Carlisle and the Roman sites, Good food available in the town also supermarkets. No Post Office or Bank though.

The town is marketed as being the geometric centre of Great Britain. It may well be. It is ideally situated a short drive from Hexham and roughly midway between Carlisle and Newcastle. It is a small town close to Hadrian's Wall and the associated ancient sites. Nightlife is limited as one might expect from a small town. Well worth a visit.

A pleasant and friendly small town ideally positioned to explore Hadrians Wall and a great place to base a walking, cycling and mountain biking holiday.
Additionally some great driving roads and little traffic.
Some good pubs locally or within a short drive or cycle.

We only spent one night but it is in a perfect spot for visiting Hadrian's Wall. It is near the best museum- Vindolanda and the best section of the wall (Cawfield Quarry) if you want to get a good taste of the Wall but only have a limited amount of time, like we did.

I was walking Hadrian's Wall so it was great that we had the pub on our doorstep for our evening meal and the property was so close to the Hadrian's Wall path. It was lovely being in such clean air in the heart of Northumberland National park.

The accommodation was excellent. Fantastic place to stay.
The accommodation was excellent. Fantastic place to stay. Hosts were more than helpful. The pub next door served excellent food. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage and will be going back there.
Alan and Dorothy, the hosts, were extremely helpful.A roaring log fire was burning on our arrival,There was freshly baked shortbread as an extra surprise welcome.
The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well appointed. With two bedrooms, one double and one twin, both with en-suite showers and toilets.
Set in the beautiful northumbrian countryside a short drive to Haltwhistle, and within easy reach of Carlisle and Brampton.
We are booked for another weekend break here in six weeks and can hardly wait.
Highly recommended
The location was perfect. Near to the Roman forts we were visiting along Hadrian's Wall and right in the centre of Haltwhistle close to shops, pubs etc. We had been sent the code for the entrance door and had no problem accessing the property. The first floor room was small but very cosy and comfortable; we really appreciated the small refrigerator in our room and especially the fresh milk for tea and coffee instead of the silly little plastic pots normally available!
Excellent location. Free parking. We stayed in the outside stables with our dog which had a seating area. The hotel has been renovated to a good specification,is well maintained, clean with excellent food, good choice with generous portions. The owners are a lovely couple, friendly with excellent knowledge of the local walks they accommodated the dog to be with us for meals and even saved him a few sausages left from the breakfast. Teddy definitely wants to go back.
We were walking Hadrians Wall with friends and met them at Haltwistle - we all; stayed at The Manor House. The owner and staff go the extra mile to make you welcome and even have a FREE shuttle bus to take you back to the wall to continue your walk(Haltwistle is a good 2 miles away and that is a long walk at the end of a 14-16 mile day). Very nice, clean bedrooms, crisp linens and big white towels - more like a good hotel than rooms in a pub so above expectation.
The location was perfect, right in the centre of Haltwhistle with close access to pubs, restaurants and shopping facilities. Parking was at the rear of the apartment within a two-minute walk. The apartment itself was spacious, comfortable and secure. Geographically, Haltwhistle is more or less in a central position by Hadrian's Wall, so all the major sites were within easy travelling distances.
I thought we would be miles from anywhere but we were in a good location to explore Hadrian's Wall and well place to head north to Alnwick etc. The food was good and a great choice for breakfast that negated the need for lunch but we had it anyway. Parking was either directly outside the hotel or at the end of the road so not the issue we expected. Great value for money.
This is a lovely family farm not too far from Haltwhistle and Hadrian's Wall. We had a big room with walk in shower. Breakfast was in the main house and it was really really good! The proprietor picked us up at the train and then showed us the walking paths to get back to town and up to Hadrian's wall. I would love to return to this amazing place.
Everything else. Amazing breakfast, friendly, comfortable, great location, quiet, good recommendations on things to do, working farm, few other rooms, excellent Covid precautions, lovely garden and tea house, good fishing nearby, walking path to Haltwhistle, friendly, good in-room facilities, views, whirlpool bathtub, and especially, friendly!
This is a great little hotel. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. David is very knowledgeable of the area. Leigh made me feel like I was more than just another random guest. The food is fantastic. Really just a great little hotel. If I ever make it back to this side of the world again, definitely staying here again.
Very good range of cookware, well equiped kitchen, big soft towels, hot shower, cosy and clean cottage. Nice welcome card from owners and milk and sparkly in fridge.Lovely decor throughout. Pretty village location with view over allotments. Easy to get into Haltwhistle that has supermarkets, shops, cafes and a fab outdoor pool.
We are regular visitors to Haltwhistle (wife was born there and went to school in this building when it was the local primary school ). We have stayed at several hotels or B&Bs. This was by far the best and we’ll be staying again. Rooms very tastefully refurbished and excellent, inventive breakfast choices
What a lovely place - well appointed, spacious and adjoining a great pub. We were walking Hadrian's Wall and the location couldn't be better. The owners were very hospitable - even to the extent of offering to drive me back to Haltwhistle to retrieve my car! Highly recommend.
Linda was fantastic - couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Room was extremely comfortable with all the trimmings you would expect in a hotel. Lovely, quiet, scenic location not far from the local villiage and a 10/10 breakfast.
One of the cleanest hotel rooms I have stayed in! Very cozy and comfortable bed. Easy check in with self service. The fresh milk in the fridge was a lovely touch for the tea and coffee. The bath towels were enormous and very fresh smelling too.
Charming hosts, brilliant bothy, all needs were anticipated, and what a location!! Perfect for a solo traveler, near all the top Hadrian's Wall stops, and Haltwhistle a postcard pretty and walkable village. Full marks!
