Wykeham Arms, hotel in Winchester

This unique 18th-century inn is situated between Winchester Cathedral and the college, tucked away in the quietest corner of the city. The city-centre is a 5-minute walk away.

Everything was superb, there's not a single thing I could criticise. The room (and the entire building) was beautiful and well-appointed as well as spotlessly clean. It seemed newly refurbished and everything was shiny and working perfectly, with an added bonus of free, top-quality filter coffee and chocolate biscuits. Both the evening meal and breakfast were perfect and the staff accommodated all of my requests without question. Amazing ❤️

Winchester is a delightful place to visit.

Winchester is a delightful place to visit. It blends the old with the new extremely well. The cathedral has to be seen inside. A guided tour is available which is essential to appreciate fully the cathedral's remarkable history. Further attractions are the wide range of excellent restaurants and pubs, museums and historic buildings.

    Lovely historical sites and museums.

Lovely historical sites and museums. A walk along the trail was refreshing and seeing Winchester from Saint Catherine's Hill and lunch at the Handle Bar cafe at Saint Catherine's Hill was good value for money, lovely fresh panini's and friendly staff, not to mention the cake. Plenty of eateries on an evening and quaint streets.

Winchester is a charming city which needs you to fully explore. As well as the Cathedral and Great Hall, you should walk right to the end of the High Street as see what is down each street- particularly at the top of the town. There is a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. We had a Nepalese meal at Marse which was great with "ancient grains". The Tourist Information Centre were fantastically helpful. Do walk the Water Meadows on the other side of the Cathedral and visit St Cross- following the river and in the spirit of John Keats. Finally, walk around the ruins of Wolvesey Castle.

Nice city, good shopping and eateries on the pedestrianised high street. The Cathedral, the Mill, Wolvesey Castle (ruins) and the Great Hall are all worth a visit. Relaxing walks along the river and through small roads, the architecture is beautiful and the city has a good atmosphere. The church of St Swithun is a little gem and the Peninsula Barracks with the Military and Gurkha Museums are interesting. We didn’t have the time to see the Hospital of the Cross nor the Dean Garnier Garden nor the College but we are leaving these for our next visit.

Had a business meeting and a social event in the middle of the city. This hotel provided everything in a perfect location. The one-way system was tricky to navigate and the street signs are poor, but that's not the Hotel's fault.

Querky rooms as you would expect if you have read the other reviews - the look on our friends faces when they were given the key to 'Cell 2' was a picture as we had kept them in the dark as of the location. The full English for Breakfast was very tasty and served with a smile. If walking into Winchester and I suggest that you take the opportunity then follow the river walk close to the hotel it is a beautiful walk with plenty of seats. We don't often come this way but if we do then we would have no hesitation stopping here again.

From the moment we arrived we were treated exceptionally well. Our bags were taken up to our room whilst we went to park in the permitted areas. The room was very spacious and perfect for our needs. The breakfast that was pre-ordered each night was brought to our room at exactly the time requested, piping hot and everything ordered delivered. The location of the hotel to enable exploration of Winchester could not have been better and despite being in a town centre the room we stayed in "Nina Campbell" was extremely peaceful.

The warm welcome we received from the moment we arrived set the standard for our wonderful stay at The Winchester Hotel & Spa .The staff were all fabulous, the Christmas decor was both modern & charming and the food delicious. The Spa gave a welcome break from shopping & the Saturday evening meal outstanding. A perfect weekend away. Special thanks to Castiel, the Manager who leads by example delivering 5 star customer service. We can't wait to return.

For a hotel at a motorway service station, this has to be one of the cleanest, smartest, and most comfy I have stayed in! The twin beds were a generous single size and the room was quite simply massive! The bathrooms were spotless and modern with fantastic showers. Complimentary shower gel on the walls was a plus! On a final note, the price, I may have got this at an unusually low rate but for £35 I think this was super value.

    * Location of hotel, with an exceptional view of Winchester Cathedral * Willingness of staff to help * Comfortable room (the deluxe double) * Good-quality breakfast * Proximity to town centre *Pre-ordered prosecco was presented as a complementary gesture, as it was delayed by a day (and thus spoiled the surprise on check-in)

Good breakfast, friendly staff, great drinks selection in cosy pub. We had a gorgeous balcony, shame we couldn’t use it at the end of November! Great place to stay while visiting Winchester. We got bus in and taxi back. It was much cheaper than staying at a hotel in town.
