“On first arrival the owner Les was at the door to meet us, very welcoming, after a short chat he showed us to our room. We stayed in a double room, which was just right for our needs. It was warm, comfortable with a large bathroom and good shower. The location for us was perfect for walking Hadrian’s wall and visiting the fort. We had a few good chats with Les, who is very knowledgeable and well traveled. Breakfast was good but I’m very fussy about the sausage I eat. The ones provided were nice but I mentioned that I liked Tesco’s Pork and Les went out of his way to get me the sausages I liked best. He can also advise on places to visit during your stay, very good local knowledge.”

“Les has been welcoming hikers, couples and families here for over a decade and this cosy little outpost on a Northumberland plateau didn't disappoint. A home from home, right next to all the important Hadrians Wall bits (vindolanda, housesteads, birdoswald etc) serving up superb breakfasts, friendly chats, top tips and some sharp wit. “I would highly recommend staying here. Les is an incredible friendly fun person who was welcoming as soon as we arrived and we were very late due to traffic The room was comfy, clean had a massive ensuite with fantastic views The breakfast was AWESOME and had us both ready for a long walk along Hadrians wall. We had great recommendations about where to walk and how to get there also about where to eat ..... we were not orgaised and did not book ahead to eat (our fault) and the places locally looked great. Everything was so lovely here, we felt very welcome, had a great laugh and felt like a home away from home i would deffinately recommend and will try to come back.”

I unfortunately left my mobile at a pub a few miles away and Les was kind enough to phone the pub, drive me down there and drop me back on Hadrian's wall so I could restart my trail.
