  • Is there a shuttle available to get to the closest beach nearby? What are the other transportation options?
Hi , there isn't a shuttle as the nearest beach is about 500m away. there are other fantastic beaches a bit further away some of which can be reached by public transport.

  • How can I get to the closest beach from the property?
our front garden leads straight down to the sea, the nearest beach is 500m away and there is a fantastic 'secret cove' with sandy beach just 1 mile away or about 1\2 mile if you follow the coastal path.

  • Hi I am looking to see if wheelchair accessible? Doors wide enough etc Thanks
Hi Unfortunately I don't think that our property would be wheelchair accessible, additionally all our rooms are on the first floor necessitating climbing stairs. There are also a number of minor obstacles (door sills) which would make it difficult.

  • Hi, do you allow little well behaved dogs (Dachshund)?
Hi I'm sorry but we do not allow dogs, no matter how well behaved. It's not that we don't like dogs, our rescue dog is not tolerant of other dogs in the house. I believe that The Anchorage B&B at Bruichladdich will take dogs. Kind regards Gary & Ali

A warm welcome awaits at Orsay House, Islay B&B, when you come and visit our lovely family home with spectacular sea views and comfortable  rooms.  Nestled in the heart of the pretty Conservation Village of Portnahaven and only a few steps from the sea, Orsay House, Islay B&B, is ideal for leisurely weekend or mid week breaks, or spoil yourself and stay longer. A traditional and handsome house, dating back to the early 1900's, Orsay House retains many original features, whilst enjoying modern comforts. With a choice of rooms including our large Super King En-Suite or Double with adjoining bathroom, both with the most amazing views of Orsay and McKenzie Islands, The Lighthouse, The Harbour (and fishing boats) and of course the Seals. Or our smaller twin bedded room with Bathroom with views over the rear of the property. Please note that we generally only let the double OR Twin room, this ensures that you will have fully private facilities. However friends or families can book both the twin and double rooms if they do not mind sharing the bathroom! Come and visit us soon at Orsay House, Portnahavens number one B&B and experience Islay's magic for yourself.
Orsay House Bed & Breakfast in Portnahaven, on the picturesque Isle of Islay – the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’, is our family home that we share with our little rescue dog, Tizzy. After holidaying on Islay for many years we decided that the time was right to 'Forget to go home', so we gave up our jobs, sold our house and made the move to Islay. Although neither of us were involved in hospitality before moving to Islay we have enjoyed setting up and running Orsay House and we certainly seem to be doing something right after achieving a booking com award of 9.8 Excellent and a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice award for three out of the last four years. Please take a look at our feedback. We really enjoy meeting guests from all over the world and from all walks of life, helping to ensure that their time on our beautiful island is as packed or relaxed as they want.
Islay is renowned for its friendliness and popular pastimes include visiting the 9 whisky distilleries, wildlife and bird-watching, walking, fishing and golf on the championship Machrie Golf Course. Located on Queen Street, with a well-maintained garden stretching down to the rocks and sea, Orsay House Bed & Breakfast offers uninterrupted, spectacular Atlantic sea views from the decked area in front of the house. where guests can sit and watch the changing tides, the antics of the local seal population and so Orsay House is conveniently located less than 50m from a bus stop which serves 5 of the 9 distilleries as well as both ferry ports and airport. Unfortunately our local pub, An Tigh Seinnse, is not open due to its recent sale but we understand that it will reopen in early 2023 once again serving the freshest seafood and delicious beers, whiskies and other drinks. Portnahaven is home to over 100 seals that reside here all year round and entertain you by posing and splashing around and often sing you to sleep with their haunting lullaby
