Winchester is a charming city which needs you to fully explore. As well as the Cathedral and Great Hall, you should walk right to the end of the High Street as see what is down each street- particularly at the top of the town. There is a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. We had a Nepalese meal at Marse which was great with "ancient grains".
The Tourist Information Centre were fantastically helpful. Do walk the Water Meadows on the other side of the Cathedral and visit St Cross- following the river and in the spirit of John Keats. Finally, walk around the ruins of Wolvesey Castle.

Nice city, good shopping and eateries on the pedestrianised high street. The Cathedral, the Mill, Wolvesey Castle (ruins) and the Great Hall are all worth a visit. Relaxing walks along the river and through small roads, the architecture is beautiful and the city has a good atmosphere. The church of St Swithun is a little gem and the Peninsula Barracks with the Military and Gurkha Museums are interesting. We didn’t have the time to see the Hospital of the Cross nor the Dean Garnier Garden nor the College but we are leaving these for our next visit.

Had a business meeting and a social event in the middle of the city. This hotel provided everything in a perfect location. The one-way system was tricky to navigate and the street signs are poor, but that's not the Hotel's fault.

A walkable city with a wonderful cathedral.
A walkable city with a wonderful cathedral. Sadly, several other attractions were closed or under renovation. This was an easy trip from London and close to other cities you can also other visit
Querky rooms as you would expect if you have read the other reviews - the look on our friends faces when they were given the key to 'Cell 2' was a picture as we had kept them in the dark as of the location. The full English for Breakfast was very tasty and served with a smile. If walking into Winchester and I suggest that you take the opportunity then follow the river walk close to the hotel it is a beautiful walk with plenty of seats. We don't often come this way but if we do then we would have no hesitation stopping here again.
Spent a couple of nights. The hotel is very clean and I surprisingly found no faults with the cleanliness of the bathroom. The room was comfortable and cozy. I had the most amazing sleep. The staff was friendly, efficient, and resourceful. The food was delicious. The garden is beautiful and the hotel itself has lovely charm. If I'm back in Winchester again this would be my first consideration. I highly recommend this hotel.
For a hotel at a motorway service station, this has to be one of the cleanest, smartest, and most comfy I have stayed in! The twin beds were a generous single size and the room was quite simply massive! The bathrooms were spotless and modern with fantastic showers. Complimentary shower gel on the walls was a plus! On a final note, the price, I may have got this at an unusually low rate but for £35 I think this was super value.
From the minute we arrived (during what looked like a busy restaurant service) we were made to feel extremely welcome. They had upgraded our room, which was extremely comfortable, immaculately clean and quiet. Superb facilities, everything you could need. The location is stunning just a 3.5 scenic walk into Winchester. The breakfast the next morning was brought to the room and was absolutely EPIC.
It is our second stay at the Running Horse. It is good value for money and rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The toiletries in the bathroom are really good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok but slightly overpriced as the ingredients and the coffe are average. The location is in a pretty village just outside Winchester and there is free parking at the hotel.
We used the spa everyday, and found it very clean, I liked being able to dress for swimming in our room and wear a robe to the spa.
Breakfast was a good quality buffet.
Winchester is a lovely old city with lots of eateries and old buildings of interest especially the cathedral. We could walk from the hotel to the city centre in about 10 to 15 minutes
Room is very clean, beds comfortable, host friendly, many food options for breakfast and well prepared. The property is close to Univ. of Winchester and its environment is nice. One bus takes us to the downtown of Winchester.
The hotel is very close to the station and right in the centre of Winchester. As I was travelling by train it was an ideal location. I thought the room was stylish and well provided with tea and coffee facilities.
Very nice hotel with a great location, staff were all very friendly and the beds were very comfortable. Would highly recommend for any stay in Winchester. Were very accommodating in our needs.
the hotel was perfectly located for easy walk into the centre and walks around the cathedral.
The room was ok and clean and served a purpose which was solely to sleep after working all day.
Deluxe room - not cheap but good! Also included a P-space in the hotel-backyard. Charming old-pub-atmosphere, near Winchester Cathedral. Nice dinner and breakfast
location between Southampton, Winchester, Portsmouth - you can discover those towns, if you have a car
good plenty breakfasts, nearby zoo, pool at the hotel
