If you are concerned about safety during COVID, don’t be. The Pheasant Retreat is secluded and private. Spotlessly clean and very spacious. No contact with the host except by text if we needed it. Beautiful garden to sit out in day or night and totally relaxing. I cannot recommend this property enough.

The Pheasant Retreat and Pheasant Lodge and Pheasant Suite are located in the grounds of Balls Farm, a 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by fields and wildlife. The accommodations has a 5-star Gold Award from the British tourist board.

    not in walking distance. There are some in the next village, Wivenhoe, which is very pretty and on the river. We have lots of restaurants that deliver and you have a beautiful private garden to sit and eat in.

  • Hi, will you be offering breakfast after 17th May? Is it possible to easily get a taxi into Colchester if needed?

    Good Evening. No, we no longer offer breakfast, but there is a local app called Colchester Eats and they deliver all food including breakfasts. We are now classed as self catering. Yes it is very easy to get a taxi into Colchester.

"Our aim is to create an experience, not just a visit" ~ Pheasant Retreat is the ultimate luxurious experience and has the biggest bath in Essex. Ideal for Honeymooners and romantic breaks away. The private garden is equipped with a large day bed for two and is completely secluded offering a level of unprecedented privacy. ~ Pheasant Lodge is filled with natural light and has fantastic views from all 7 windows and a private sunny garden. ~ Pheasant Suite is the smaller of our three Suites and does not have a kitchen. It has a separate sitting room with views across the fields. The bedroom which has a French carved queen size bed has double doors leading onto a enclosed sunny patio. We are listed as No 1 on TripAdvisor in Colchester with 100's of excellent reviews.

We are located less than three miles from the centre of Colchester and Essex University, a mile from the village of Elmstead Market, which is home to The Beth Chatto Gardens and only 15 miles from Harwich. It is on the edge of the beautiful Dedham Vale and Constable Country.
