We chose the area because of its associations with Thomas Hardy; the cottage where he was born, the church where he was baptised, sang in the choir and where his heart is buried (possibly inside a cat.) Dining in both pubs in the amazingly stretched out village, The Thimble and The Piddle Inn, also the Royal Oak in Cerne Abbas. You need a car to get around as there's no bus, apparently. Dorchester is the nearest town and the Cerne Abbas Giant is only about 3 miles away. Jurassic Coast and dinosaus along with Durdle Door attract crowds.

    I loved it.

I loved it. Great hospitality, beautiful location, spotlessly clean, a lovely couple running it. Can't fault it and wouldn't dream of trying. I needed a quiet bolthole and a base for excursions into the gorgeous countryside. I came in May which was a perfect time to see Dorset in all its green glory, and this country house retreat fit my needs perfectly. You can use it a a B&B but in truth it's more like a small, well-run hotel. Good food, a great welcome, kind people who are serious about the quality of what they offer. Excellent.
