Our 18th century country house is high on the radar of walkers, history buffs, foodies and wine lovers alike. PowderMills was once the site for the production of the finest gunpowder in Europe, a fact not missed on our location, just outside the town of Battle and adjoining the infamous Battlefield of 1066 and Battle Abbey. We are just a 15-minute drive to the beaches of Hastings and Bexhil-on-Sea and close to Carr-Taylor Vineyard, a lovely family run winemaker that is widely reputed to have kick-started the English winemaking revolution with their award-winning wines. We are nestled amongst 85 acres of parkland, tranquil lakes, ponds and woodland (some parts are ancient), with wandering peacocks, wild geese, ducks and herons, these natural surroundings set a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. If walking in nature is your therapy, then you have 3 walks to experience including a slightly more challenging 3.5km walk to Battle Abbey which takes around 30-40 minutes. We can provide you with simple maps (and lend you some wellies) to guide you to the very gates of the Abbey. You never know, you might bump into some interesting people and enjoy a good natter along the way. A range of standard, executive bedrooms and suites are available. Choose from classic Georgian style and comfort in the main house or why not stay in one of our grand barns – The Pavilion or The Cloisters. Luxurious style is on offer in The Pavilion and The Cloisters with its contemporary décor and balconies provide superb, elevated views of the grounds. Our outdoor pool is perfect for those with a love of refreshing cold water swimming or mindfulness and is open from April to October. Fine dining is on offer in our 2 AA Rosette Orangery restaurant, or you can choose a more informal dining option from our Gunpowder, brasserie style menu all complimented by a hand-picked wine list featuring some wonderful white and red Burgundies, top-notch clarets alongside fabulous Rhone and new world wines.
