Welcome to a one bedroom 19th century red sandstone folly. It has an open plan living area with large, comfy sofa, fast WiFi - 23 Mbps, TV, DVD player and fold-up dining table and chairs. The fully equipped kitchen is set around a spiral staircase. Upstairs has bedroom, with double and single bed, wardrobe and full-length mirror, and en suite bathroom with shower above bath. The full length front windows give views of the garden, which has seating and terrace. Dogs welcome. The garden with a choice of seating areas is for the exclusive use of guests to the cottage, and is fenced all round. Parking for 2 cars about 50 metres from front door. Ground is flat between car and cottage, with one step up to front door. Cottage and enclosed garden are self-contained with own entrance. The woodland around the cottage is private and not available for access, but there are plenty of walks from the village (about 15mins walk away on the village road), which go along the river, and up Coppett Hill for good views. Note: The electric car charging point is a slow overnight charge from an outdoor 3 pin square socket with your own adapter.
For relaxing evenings around the firepit under the stars and listening to the owls, come to the Summer House, surrounded by woodland and your own private semi-walled garden. We look forward to welcoming you to the cottage, and will give you detailed directions and arrange the collection of the keys. I'll leave you to have a peaceful holiday and you can message me anytime.
The garden to the front of the cottage is for your own exclusive use during your stay. It is fenced all round but may not be 100% dog proof. The woodland to the back of the house is private and not for guests use. About 10 minutes walk from the pretty village of Goodrich which has a castle and pub. For local walks without the car, it is best to go to the end of our lane, turn left and go into the village. From there, you can walk up Coppett Hill, or to Goodrich Castle, to Goodrich church or to Kerne Bridge and along the river. Other places to walk/cycle: Symonds Yat - A 3-mile drive/cycle to Symonds Yat East where the road divides to go left up to Symonds Yat rock and viewpoint with car park, or right and down to the Saracens Head Pub: there’s a car park just beyond this, accessing the riverside cycle/footpath with plenty of choices, and a ferry across the river. Beechenhurst - A 7-mile drive to Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean – lots of forest footpaths/bike routes to choose from and a sculpture trail. Forest of Dean - A 7-mile drive to Cannop Ponds near Coleford – a lot of flat walking/cycling as well as a choice of forest footpaths. Nearest Pub: Turn left at the end of our lane to walk into the village – 10 minutes. The Cross Keys is another 10 mins walk from the village for great burgers and traditional local pub vibe. The Saracens Head by the river at Symonds Yat has good pub food and great service. The Kings Head Hotel and the Royal Hotel, both near each other in Ross-on-Wye, are recommended for a drink, food and Sunday lunch. No 3 restaurant in Ross is highly recommended for a special evening meal, and a very good lunch. Nearest Shop: Woods of Whitchurch – turn right at the end of our lane and go down the A40 for 2 miles. It’s on the opposite side of the road. A village stores with bakery and café which does a great cooked breakfast. They also do home cooked ready meals and take away pizza nights.
