The Cookie Jar, hotel in Alnwick

Featuring free WiFi and a terrace, The Cookie Jar (Alnwick) was formerly the Convent of Mercy, and is just 0.2 miles from the center of Alnwick.

Words really fail me to explain how special this property was. The attention to every single detail was exquisite. I’m a professional organizer. My business is details. I’ve never seen anything like this. Everything - even the lights on the floor that automatically come on when you walk into the bathroom - was planned perfectly when this former convent was remodeled to make a sacred space for all its guests. There was even framed sheet music in the halls to, I assume, pay homage to the beautiful music that must’ve once graced the hallways. The staff was so warm and welcoming. The breakfast buffet was like something out of a Veranda magazine spread. The breakfast was delicious. At every turn in the hotel and the room itself, we were met with a delightful and unexpected experience. Who puts this much thought into a public space? The Cookie Jar does. You made our once-in-a-lifetime trip unforgettable.

Alnwick is a good place to visit and is an ideal base for exploring the area. There are a number of good restaurants and cafes. Alnwick Castle is worth a visit, but don’t bother with Alnwick Gardens as they are small and over priced.

This was our first visit to Alnwick and we've fallen in love! There were so many intriguing and characterful shops to explore and we were spoilt for choice for lovely places to eat. We would whole heartedly recommend eating a SherKhan - some of the best curry we've ever had - and also The Adam and Eve. Dirty Bottles is a fab venue, great for a drink but would skip the very averge food next time.

The castle and gardens were closed but we have been in them before and so we were not disappointed. A walk along the river at the back of the castle is very nice and a good test of your waterproofs and footwear. Hulne park has good walks. Alnwick is a beautiful town. Berwick and Morpeth nearby, complement the area.

Alnwick is an excellent centre for visiting many locations...

Alnwick is an excellent centre for visiting many locations in Northumberland, with lots of scenic coastline and castles on your doorstep. There are plenty of excellent places to eat however if you are going to stay over a weekend I would recommend booking a table in advance as they all get very busy. If you want to book the treetop restaurant book months on advance to avoid disappointment. Alnwick castle and gardens are a must if you have never visited before.

Both The Garden and Castle were well worth the ticket price.

Both The Garden and Castle were well worth the ticket price. Informative tours are available with very knowledgeable staff. Even if you don't take a tour of the castle and wander around yourself, staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have about the history of the castle and gardens . A fantastic place to visit. We popped out for a walk around the town mid visit and had no issue getting back in to the castle afterwards.

The location to the castle and city center was great. The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable. In the heat, the room did have a fan for increasing the airflow through the room. The staff was wonderful when we explained that we needed help obtaining a taxi to the train station. Our phones would not make calls (despite having signal) and they coordinated the taxi and kept us informed in the process of coordinating it. It was not a Harry Potter themed hotel, but it did have nods to the series that was filmed at the local attraction.

Communication and instructions from Darren were excellent. We liked being able to enter the property and access our room independently. The room was very comfortable and cosy. It was particularly nice to have a fridge. Breakfast was excellent in very pleasant room. Cafetiere coffee we made ourselves was a bonus. Coffee in hotels is frequently poor. Parking at the back of the terrace was helpful. Excellent location for Alnwick Castle and Garden which are superb. Lidl was very close by.

the location is great , nice and peaceful and safe knowing you have Jen and Shaun on site if needed without the noise of a camp site , your own shower ,toilet , tv , internet , a outdoor place to chill and a fire pit the pod is brand new and clean with a comfy bed and microwave and kettle to make snacks , the pod is in the grounds of a private estate with another lodge nearby but it is very private It was lovely having the chickens and the dogs around Jen and Shaun are lovely hosts

Fantastic location lots of cafes restaurants literally on the door stop, did a bit of Xmas shopping in the gift shops, castle 5 mins walk, lovely wild unspoilt beaches nearby. So much better value than the hotels. Thanks for the chocolates too much appreciated after a very long drive from London.

The location is close to the Castle grounds and the poison garden! We were keen to see the gardens. The centre of town is a short walk up the road and the book exchange is nearby too. The bar was friendly and gave good service, breakfast, served on the first floor, was really good. We opted to stay in for dinner too, good quality food delivered by cheerful staff. We were very happy that the carpark was there and very close by.

The friendliest welcome from a perfect gent. Couldn't be more attentive. Room was lovely size to the front of the property. Comfortable and clean room. All the little details, fantastic, even an umbrella in the room. They seem to have considered everything for their visitors. Breakfast was to a very high standard. Taking personal preferences into account. Great place to stay, a traditional B&B.

That is the right place if you want to stay in a 'real' english house. It is so charming and original and the hosts are very very polite. Don't miss the superb breakfast! And the sights are all very close: the 'Northumberland National Park', or nice towns like Alnwick etc., and also the coast is not too far away.
