Mae, Steve & all the staff at The Crown Inn Hotel offer excellent service & are very friendly. Great food with a good selection Unexpected bonus to our visit was venue had a Abba tribute night which was great fun, pub was packed & people up dancing . These are held the last Friday of the month. Accommodation was a bit tired & dated but was clean & had everything needed for a short stay, Neighbourhood is quiet but right on South Down trail so busy with walkers & bike riders. Bramber ruins is worth a look, has nice views of South Downs

I only used the hotel as I only wanted an overnight stay.

I only used the hotel as I only wanted an overnight stay. I had a 4hr drive to attend a reunion in Brighton, and a similar distance to drive the following day. Did not explore Steyning as being a local, born in Brighton, already knew the charm and attraction of the old country town.

Steyning High Street was an unexpected bonus.

Steyning High Street was an unexpected bonus. There are loads of small independent shops and cafes. Really lovely architecture, perfect village! Unfortunately the weather was not suitable for us to take advantage of the surrounding countryside.

As we only used it as a base for visiting Brighton, seven sisters, cissbury ring and Eastbourne, all that I can say is that it was easy to access from a main road and nice and quiet. I would visit again if we are going to the same area.

we liked the way it has been built the old is in keeping with the new part which as been added, we had a cream tea in the old tollgate keeper room ,Bramber which is the real name of the small village has some interesting old buildings in the street one of which is St Marys house there also a ruined castle a cross the road form the hotel which i for got to say has a large free carpark ,Steyning the next large old town is just up the road .

Steyning is a small village with a hotel and 2 restaurants...

Steyning is a small village with a hotel and 2 restaurants and lots of private residences. Houses have typical English gardens and it is very quiet. But there is not much to do and there is not one store. It is not worth the trip. But, staff at the Castle Inn Hotel are exceedingly nice. Breakfast is quite good and varied, served between 7-9AM and there is free coffee and water throughout the day. The Hotel also has table on an outside patio, and a room for disabled with wider space between the bed and the cupboards. If you want to go to Steyning make sure you land at Gatwick. A cab will cost you 75 pounds pr you can take a train and then a cab (18 pounds). Either way it will take you 40 minutes from Gatwick to Steyning. There are two restaurants only (Chineese and Indian) opening at night only.

We liked fact no breakfast was included so we could have a cheeky lie in and go for brunch elsewhere. The largest tea selection provided in any room we have stayed in along with some fine biscuits. Bed is very comfy. Bathroom was well supplied with elemis. We had a great walk along the south downs way from Washington to Steyning via Chanctonbury ring ending at Springwells. See photo looking onto Steyning from SDW. Travelled to Brighton the next day, always a joy to visit.

Lovely room with nice little touches like fresh milk in the fridge, and cookies and sweets. Excellent breakfast choices, served in the garden. The garden and pool areas were a real surprise even if we didn’t stay long enough to take advantage of them. The owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We booked at a couple of hours notice when our original booking at another hotel was cancelled due to a Covid infection - our good luck in the end. Highly recommended.

Breakfast was at a level of five star hotel! My wife has quite severe mobility issues but was able to manage the stairs without too much difficulty. Diana was everything you could want from a hostess - helpful, kind , understanding and thoughtful. There are not many B&B in Steyning but Uppingham is a star in a dark night! And at £95.00 for a double room / night, this was a bargain. I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.

We came to Steyning to attend a special event with friends. As it could be a late finish on a Sunday evening, we looked for a nice place to stay. This was perfect. Convenient location, very friendly and helpful host, clean room with very comfortable bed (hurrah) and a delicious breakfast. We would choose to stay here again, when in this part of West Sussex. Very happy to highly recommend Uppingham to other guests.

Beautiful historic property in Steyning, lovely interior and good bedroom and bathroom. All very clean and tidy. Close to local shops, cafes and pubs. Loved the outdoor swimming pool and the gardens. Receptionist was very helpful and friendly. The property doesn't offer breakfast or meals on-site, which we knew about before booking, but there are cafes and pubs within a very short walk. Free off-road parking.

What an absolutely charming hotel in such a picturesque setting. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much. The rooms were spacious and clean and breakfast was delicious. I would rate this higher than 5* stars if I could. Would highly recommend. Even down to the complementary dog biscuits available for the 4 legged friends. Every extra piece of detail has been thought of.

Nothing. I had a booking but had to change the date. I got a call from the hotel to let me know the booking had been moved by 2 weeks. I turned up and the booking hadn't been moved and they had no room. I asked for a drink for free while I went online to fine another hotel and they couldn't even do that.

Incredibly nice staff. Very accommodating and welcoming. Great internet access. Good common areas where we were able to work during the day. Located close to an Indian restaurant and a Chinese restaurant where it is easy to get some take away food. Not very expensive for UK standards.

I loved it all...I felt like I was staying in someone's guest room vs a hotel. Patricia, Natalia &, John were especially gracious...and the both ladies on the room changing team my last morning were very nice. (Didn't catch their names.)
