Ruthin Castle Hotel and Spa offers a retreat steeped in history and nestled in acres of parkland. Next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Wales, the castle dates back to the legend of King Arthur. It features exquisite dining, a cooked Welsh breakfast, and a distinctive spa.

All rooms are individually styled using contemporary décor and all include a modern private bathroom. Every room has at least 1 flat-screen TV and some feature a large standalone bath and a four-poster bed.

Located beside the rustic woodland grounds of the castle's moat, the spa offers a selection of treatments. Guests can also enjoy a calming relaxation area and thermal suite, with a sauna and steam room.

    We are currently only doing treatments only, our gym will reopen on the 3rd of May and we expect shortly after to have the spa facilities open. However we are still waiting on confirmation

  • I notice you are pet friendly, we will be travelling with our 2 dogs. Are there any additional charges and specific rooms to accommodate?

    We are pet friendly, there is an additional charge per night of £15.00. Our pet friendly rooms are on the ground floor.

  • I am planning to book a room for one night next week for 2 Adults & 2 children. It’s as £ 279 for one room. Same room for 2 adults comes as £ 151.

  • Hi, are you open for visitors from England on the 8th May?

    Some Hotels in Wales have been open for English residents since the travel restrictions lifted on the 12th of April, as we have been opened as self contained accommodation only. As of 26th of April our outdoor dining has also opened.

    The hot tubs are part of our spa facilities, we are currently waiting for an announcement on when these can open. They are semi private as they are located in the woodland spa outside area, there are around 3 hot tubs spaced out over the area.

  • Hi if we brought our dogs are they allowed with us if you have entertainment on, are they restricted it a corner in hotel, can they be left in room if we wanted to use facilities spa Just seeing how dog friendly you are, before we book (thinking eight days over Christmas cheers 24to1st

Property info

A wooden fort appears to have existed on the site until 1277 when King Edward I of England reconstructed it in local stone and granted it to Dafydd, brother of Prince Llewelyn ap Graffudd. All that now remains are three towers and the ruined double-towered gatehouse. In 1282 the castle came under the control of The Marcher Lord, Reginald de Grey, reputedly the former Sheriff of Nottingham of the Robin Hood story, and his family owned the castle for the next 226 years. The third Baron de Grey's dispute with Owain Glyndwr triggered the Welsh rebellion against King Henry IV in 1400, when Glyndwr burned Ruthin to the ground, leaving only the castle and a few other buildings standing. During the English Civil War in 1646 the castle survived an eleven-week siege, after which it was demolished by order of Parliament. The castle was rebuilt in the 19th century as a country house and from 1826 until 1921 the castle was the home of the Cornwallis-West family, members of Victorian and Edwardian high society. Please note the hotel holds regular functions on weekends - please check with the hotel in advance if you are concerned this may affect your stay.
