We have family at Catterick and Richmond is only a few minutes drive from there. We like the Station complex with the shops & cinema, the centre of Richmond around the market place. I recommend the Green Howards museum and the Georgian theatre has a great 1 hour tour for just £8. There is the castle to visit and a nice walk around the castle to try. There are plenty of shops, little cafes, an indoor market, lots of pubs and a variety of take-aways. The market pace is cobbled and some streets away from the centre and very steep and can be hard walking for elderly.

Loved the dramatic landscape of the castle and the river valley around the town. The centre is up a slight hill but parking available in the central market square and down by the river. Some public footpaths available to walk in the countryside around the town. The town gives perhaps a good mornings wandering but with a car you can easily access the beautiful dales.

Great market town, the Saturday market held in the cobbled square was in full swing and very well attended.
Richmond is convenient for the stunning North Yorkshire Dales.
Has its own ruined castle and the beautiful river Swale runs through Richmond, lots of independent shops and the most fabulous fish and chips are to be had from the shop in the middle of the square …they are cooked in dripping and were delicious.
Lovely town to visit

Lovely market town, lots of places to eat and drink, some cheap shops to rummage around, ate at Elixir for lunch, lovely food and huge portions. In the evening we ate in Sunitras, beautiful Thai food. Lovely pleasant place to stay for the weekend. We stayed at the Buck Inn, cheap and cheerful, lovely breakfast.
A stunningly decorated mews house with everything that you need. Total luxury. No outside space but only a couple of minutes walk to Richmond market place where there are cafes, restaurants, hotels, etc etc. Love that the heating was in the mirrors and paintings, never seen that before. We only stayed a couple of nights as we were going to a wedding but would definitely stay again. Highly recommend.
The breakfast was excellent with generous portions and plenty to help yourself from. The house is a bit quirky with sloping floors in places, and made things interesting. The location in the centre of Richmond was very convenient. The parking was fine if you follow the advice given by the Castle House as the wardens are very vigilant. The welcome glass of wine was a nice touch.
Fabulous country cottage in the middle of North Yorkshire. The location was the best we have ever stayed at overlooking a stream and the village green. there was a local pub within five minutes walking distance and lots to visit roundabout The cottage was beautifully decorated spacious and had all the equipment we needed. We would love to go back.
The Mews was comfortable, clean with above average facilities available for our party. The keys were easy to collect and the host made us most welcome. It is sited in an ideal situation for visiting Richmond and the parking with discs did not pose any inconvenience as we were visiting other places too.
Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Food was great, the breakfast especially was fantastic. The room had lots of little luxuries and the bed was extremely comfortable. We had a dog with us who was made to feel very welcome and certainly spoilt! Lovely hotel in the heart of Richmond.
The location was brilliant, just a couple of minutes out of Richmond in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
Breakfast was plentiful and the bed was very comfortable.
Gill, the owner, is friendly and helpful.
A bonus is her small menagerie of animals, a real source of entertainment .
Lovely cottage very close to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The house had everything you needed, was very clean and comfortable, with lovely gardens and welcoming hosts. For us it was an excellent base from which to discover multiple places like the Dales, York and North Moors.
The cottage was great, very comfortable, with all that we needed and we were glad it was cool in the very hot weather! The location was good, about 10 minutes walk into the centre of Richmond. Parking was right outside the cottage and it was quiet, away from the main road.
Met by the owner on arrival made us feel welcome from the start. The room had every thing we needed and was quiet on the back of the house. Five minutes walk into Richmond. Parking on the main road across from B&B. Superb breakfast in the morning.
Ellerton Lodge is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the country.
Shirley and Nigel are perfect hosts who cannot do enough for you. I enjoyed the Yorkshire welcome and we appreciated the peaceful setting.
The hotel is in a great location to visit Richmond and close to all the amenities. It has a cosy pub downstairs. The breakfast was tasty and the breakfasts staff was very accommodating. The hotel is very quaint and old.
