St Algars has been awarded 4 stars by Visit England and AA and offers quality accommodation and excellent food in a picturesque village setting. All rooms are clean and comfortable with lovely views over the beautiful gardens and countryside beyond. There is a Guest TV lounge/dining room with large digital TV and games, with direct access to the large beautifully maintained garden. The garden includes a seating/BBQ area for guests to relax and enjoy the quiet rural setting. There is an extensive breakfast menu offering traditional full English as well as a number of special dishes. Special diets are also catered for (with advanced notice). Fresh eggs are provided by the resident chickens. Comments from previous guests include: "Excellent!", "Absolutely lovely, comfy beds, beautiful scenery, good food", "very comfortable, quiet and luxurious. Great welcome", "Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Breakfast specials were spectacular and far beyond the norm - a high quality organoleptic experience!", "Excellent accommodation. Warm welcome and friendly. Lovely breakfast", "another lovely stay -a tremendous 'mein host' and a beautiful house - plus a breakfast unsurpassed".
As commented by one of my first guests "I am now living my dream". Eight years on and I still feel the same. I have had the pleasure of welcoming many, many lovely people to stay here at St Algars and have made many new friends. I fell into this role following an enquiry to my local Tourist office which resulted in them sending me guests that very evening despite little or no preparation! I have for the past eight years been an accredited b&b achieving a consistent 4 star rating for which I am very happy. I love to welcome guests into my home and aim to offer a 'home from home' experience with warm, clean comfortable rooms, appetising and satisfying breakfasts and pleasant conversation. I love telling guests about all the lovely places to visit in the area and also hearing about their own travels and experiences. I have a small four legged helper - my adorable dog Roxy, who often receives the best comments in my guest book! She now has a little companion Loulie whom I have discovered, to my delight, is wonderful with children! On request, my two little helpers are permitted to greet guests. I am also a horse lover, and keen artist - portraits of my animals are on display.
The picturesque village of Holt, with many thatched cottages, a village green and church also boasts an excellent pub "The Old Inn", all within a few minute walk from St Algars. There are a further two pubs and garden centre within 1 mile. Also 1 mile away is Holt Heath/forest, a 488 hectare National Nature Reserve owned by the National Trust and excellent for walkers. Moors valley is only a few miles away which offers a number of outdoor activities. Wimborne, just over 2 miles away has the famous Minster church, Priests house museum and garden, model town and it's own cinema/theatre plus numerous restaurants, tea rooms and boutiques. Wimborne market is open three days a week throughout the year. There are local farm shops and craft shops in the surrounding villages. The Jurassic coast is close by as are Bournemouth and Poole with their fantastic beaches and water activities available as well as providing excellent shoping facilities. Annual event include Wimborne folk festival held in June, The great Dorset steam fair held late August/early September, New Forest county show in July.
