Facilities were clean, breakfast was fab - wide selection and extremely generous. Also, the staff were friendly. Location was convenient and there is a wide range of eateries not far from the B&B.

United KingdomSuperb breakfast with vegetarian/vegan options. Delicious fresh croissants and pastries in addition to the cereal and cooked breakfast. Our bed was very comfortable and the room had a lovely 'feel' to it. There is an honesty bar in a lounge area where you can relax and are trusted to pay for what you have had before you leave. We stayed in January and it was a freezing weekend so the roaring log fire was appreciated. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Loved the low ceilings and doorways and the lounge was a good place to sit and relax with the other people we stayed with. Would definitely come back.

I had a bit of a coughing fit at breakfast and the staff very kindly fetched me a glass of hot honey and lemon they had made to help with my cough, which was both effective and very kind of them. Thoroughly enjoyed my restful stay.

This historic Tudor house is in quiet countryside, 2 miles from Rye town center. It is now a luxury, family-run guest house with free parking and rooms with free Wi-Fi.
Strand House was built in 1425 and it has many original features, including old oak-beamed low ceilings, winding stairs and real fireplaces. There are three modern rooms available in Rye Bay Cottage in the garden.
The traditionally decorated rooms have modern luxuries, each offering a flat-screen TV, Freeview channels and a DVD player. Tea/coffee, handmade biscuits and luxury toiletries from the White Company are provided.
There is a bar, a small sitting room and full English breakfasts each morning. Guests staying in Rye Bay Cottage receive a breakfast hamper delivered to their door.
Evening meals are available on request on most Fridays and Saturdays and the menu changes daily, reflecting the finest, fresh, often organic, local ingredients.
Couples in particular like the location – they rated it 9.2 for a two-person trip.

Strand House is made up of a pair of preserved Tudor Sussex Hall Houses build in the 1420s during the reign of Henry V. At the time Winchelsea was England's second largest port importing wine from France and exporting wool from England. The house retains many of its original features such as sloping floors, old beams and lost of nooks and crannies.
Mary Sullivan and Hugh Davie have owned Strand House for over 6 years. Mary has had plenty of catering experience with 25 years running her own contract catering company which included banquets for 500 in a football stadium and selling cakes to Fortnum and Mason. Strand House has been a guest house since 1922 and the building dates from 1425 so its repair and maintenance takes up a lot of Hugh's time.
Winchelsea is a preserved Medieval town, one of the few in England to be planned and laid out on a grid system. It retains much of its old town walls, three entrance gates and the remains of a large church which might have developed into a cathedral in time. During the summer there are cellar tours round the 34 old wine cellars of the town built in 1298 when the town was founded.
