I loved this place! The location was fabulous, The gates to the old city were just across the street which made walking in to the city center (10-15 minutes) easy to do every day. There were also plenty of options for dinner either near the hotel or easy to get home after eating in the city center. The room was very comfortable and my single was quite spacious. The place was a convent at one time and has a ton of charm and character to it. I did not do the tour that they offer during the day but that is an option for those who are interested. The breakfast here was fabulous! Included as part of your stay and you got to select what you wanted each morning. The poached eggs were amazing and I greatly appreciated the choices every day.

Stay in the heart of York – Excellent location – show map

Located in the heart of York, The Bar Convent is only a 15-minute minute walk from the city center and just over 1,000 feet from York Railway Station. The Grade I listed building offers an exhibition on the history of the site, a garden and free WiFi.

The Bar Convent offers both rooms with attached bathroom and rooms that share a bathroom. Tea/coffee making facilities, and a hand basin is provided in each room at The Bar Convent, as well as toiletries.

Breakfast is served in the on-site café, where guests may choose between a hearty full English breakfast or a lighter continental option, including fruit juices, cereals and fresh croissants. Breakfast is served until 10:00 on a weekend, and until 9.30 from Monday to Friday.

Many historic sites can be visited within York’s city center, such as York Minister - one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. Clifford’s Tower, York Dungeon and the National Railway Museum are also on offer.

  • Both adults are disabled ♿ able to. Walk with sticks celebrating 60th birthday, 2nd Honeymoon and the sad news the gentleman has Cancer but still OK at the min. Do you have queesize bed for them, how much as is gift from me Thanks

    We have 1 room that has a king sized bed, this is the superior double room.

    We do not have a car park, the nearest car park is in Nunnery Lane which runs down the side of our building.

    Yes it is shared with 4 other rooms, we have a bathroom with a toilet and a shower, also 2 other toilets and we have 2 extra showers on the floor below for guests to use

  • Hi. Is there a self serve laundry? If so, is there any charge to use it? For top floor rooms, can guests use the lift to get to level 2 and the stairs for the remainder? Thanks.

    There is a self service laundry situated on our second floor, this is £1 per wash. We have a lift that goes as far as the second floor , then there are stairs to the third floor, all guests have access to the lift
