The hosts were exceptionally understanding and accommodating of what we were doing in the hours of darkness, and even turned off their car headlights on approach, and parked in an area away from their home on returning from an evening out, to not disturb us, really appreciated that, thank you.

The Barn Annexe is a cosy self-contained stone cottage (former garage) on the south-facing slope of a peaceful green valley below Cefn Llwydallt. We're 1000 feet up and the views are brilliant! This is a peaceful and beautiful place, perfect for writing, painting, or musical inspiration. And for relaxing! There are lots of fine walks, starting at the front door or just a short drive away, along the River Wye and in the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. Night-time skies are dark (bring your telescope!), also it's a good place for bird watchers: crossbill, pipits, wheatear, kites, buzzards... My husband Dave and I have tried to make the Barn Annexe as comfortable as we can for a self-catering stay. It's roomy but cosy. Downstairs is open-plan, with kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and a toilet. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Outside, there is parking for up to two cars. You'll love it!
We love where we live, and we're glad that our guests can also enjoy this wonderful part of the world, along with us and our two cats. When we're not hosting, we might be out walking or playing "jazz with Gypsy zing" in FiddleBop.
Nearby are Hay-on-Wye ("the town of books"), atmospheric Brecon with its Cathedral and Jazz Festival, Builth Wells for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Showground, and quaint Talgarth ("the jewel of the Black Mountains").
