Both breakfast and dinner were memorable. The service was attentive, and the food was tasty and good value for money. Drinks were of good quality and well served. The toast and croissants served in a paper bag was very quirky.
United KingdomWe stayed in the Sir Galahad room, which was quirky and historic, but with just the right amount of refurbishment to make it efficient and comfortable. We had a cute little garden outside and an incredibly soft four-poster bed, but a smart and modern en-suite. The food was excellent too, and the bar staff (and many locals) were extremely friendly and hospitable. Smarden is very cute (and very old) but the Chequers seems to be the hub of village. The only slight negative about the location is that there are no other facilities in the village apart from a butcher, so if you wants shops and things on your doorstep it’s maybe not for you, but if you want a really warm welcome and a very comfortable stay then it’s very hard to beat. Also - the food is of a very high standard, clearly using superior quality ingredients and very well prepared and presented, so again there’s no real need to go anywhere else!
United KingdomThe village of Smarden is a treasure buried in the Kent countryside with The Chequers at the heart of it with its hundreds of years of history. Had a lovely walk around the village which is full of buildings from different eras. Sat in an empty pub garden by the peaceful pond and we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast alone apart from the knight in shining armour that stands in the pub. I loved the themed Arthurian room we were given which is teamed with a big modern bathroom. Half an hour to Ashford from this rural spot.
United KingdomIt's was a sweet little place. Quirky. Lovely surrounding areas. Very friendly locals
United KingdomYoung lady serving behind the bar was pleasant, sociable and efficient. Upgraded room was excellent and well equipped. Breakfast was great too.
United KingdomBeautiful village location. ❤ Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly and efficient staff. Fulsome breakfast and menu varied....Had lobster linguine and my wife had seabass both excellent....
United KingdomWe stayed in the Lancelot room which was lovely and comfortable. Loved the brass bathtub and relaxing feel of the bathroom. Dinner (not included) and breakfast were great with plenty of choice. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly too. This was our second stay here and we will definitely return.
United KingdomThank you to the Chequers Inn for an amazing night, our room, Sir Lancelot was amazing, very comfortable big bed, big copper bath to soak in & your food was out of this world, we will definitely be coming back very soon, also the staff were very polite, friendly & attentive 😃😃😃 #100%recommendthisplace 👍
United KingdomThe room we stayed in had a beautiful courtyard garden and vaulted ceiling also a huge pond in the garden. It was very attractive
United KingdomThe room was lovely. We stayed in the Guinevere room (luxury double room with brass bathtub) which is spacious and has a comfortable bed and large walk in shower. The food is wonderful - all the evening meals we had were delicious. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Great location for visiting National Trust properties (lots in the area), as well as Leeds Castle. The village of Smarden is also pretty and worth walking round.
