The Clifton is an exceptional place to stay. Rooms are brilliantly decorated and thoroughly cleaned. Fantastic location to get around to lots of places of travelling and brilliant for evening meals being so close to around 30 restaurants within walking distance. Staff were approachable, friendly and could not do enough for us. The breakfast is superb, being served in the lovely coffee shop it has a wide variety to choose from. I was in breakfast heaven. Would highly recommend and if venture to the north east again would definitely stay here again.

This is very well run, nicely decorated little hotel in a charming seaside town . It provides exceptionally good value for money. My room was comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was great. Staff were super helpful and allowed me to drop off my bag early in the day. The hotel location is great,. I knew nothing about Newcastle/South Shields and was delighted at what I found. Newcastle has an exceptionally good Metro. The South Shields metro station is a short walk (through a pedestrian shopping area) from the hotel. It is also a very short walk to a beautiful beach; and a short walk to some interesting Roman ruins; and a short wall to the ferry that goes to Tynemouth. There are lots of shops, restaurants etc around the hotel. The outside of the hotel looks crisp and clean. The whole place is beautifully maintained.

  • we are cycling tge Coast to coast. do you have a secure place to store our bicycles or would you be happy for us to keep in the room 😊

    We have a bike shed available plus a secure outside space to store bicycles. We do not allow guests to take bikes into bedrooms for H&S reasons.

Having gone through an extensive investment programme, The Clifton has expanded and now offers 17 en-suite guest rooms. We have focused on the important things that matter: Comfortable beds, a pressurised hot water system to provide an invigorating shower and two networks to provide Free High speed WiFi access, so you can always stay connected! Of course we have not overlooked the other details such as fresh and modern decor, complimentary beverage trays and toiletries plus most rooms have Smart TVs so you can stream media or surf the net. Breakfast is served in our very own Coffee shop. The Coffee shop is open 7 days a week, Mon-Sat until 5pm & Sun until 2pm. You can enjoy drinks, snacks, lunch, a cheeky cake or our popular Afternoon Tea. We will happily reserve you a table If the weather is good you can even dine alfresco in our outdoor seating area which can be a real sun trap! Our Lounge Bar is a new addition to The Clifton. A great place to relax and enjoy a bottled beer, wine or a selection of spirits The Library Room is sumptuous space and is a great place to meet with others, read a book, have a game of chess or just watch the world go past outside! During the day The Library room can be hired out for meetings and private functions. If you are travelling by car you will find that there is ample Free parking without restrictions in the vicinity which is a real bonus. We love meeting new people and thoroughly enjoy talking with people from all walks of life. We aim to make our guests feel welcome and provide them with value for money accommodation and food.

We are situated in Ocean Road, which is central for the parks, beaches and town centre. Whether it is the sea breeze, the enjoyable walks, the thrill of the funfair or the lure of restaurants and night life, you will find these and many more within 5 minutes walking distance. Visit South Tyneside's picturesque villages and towns where you will find leafy lanes, beautiful countryside, some of the best pubs in the area and quaint shops.
