Neighborhood info
Southwold is a great place to stay whether you are coming for a long weekend or a longer stay, as a family or a couple. The Dolls House is perfectly situated so you can enjoy the town and surrounding countryside without having to use your car. The High Street is only a 2 minute walk away and there are lots of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs to try.
Southwold is home to Adnams and you can arrange a tour of the brewery or distillery and head to one of the numerous pubs in the town afterwards to sample the beer. Alongside some fine restaurants there are some smaller delicatessens and food shops. The Two Magpies Bakery has some yummy treats, the cheese scones are delicious and if you have worked up an appetite with a brisk walk to Walberswick you might be tempted.
Heading further afield than Southwold, you can take the foot ferry over the River Blyth to Walberswick. There are some lovely walks in the area which allow you to experience the beautiful countryside or head to the harbour and try your hand at some crabbing.
There are numerous bird and wildlife watching opportunities. The area sits within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. RSPB Minsmere is further south along the coast and for the more active it is possible to walk from Walberswick to Dunwich and onto to Eastbridge, where the reserve is located.
If you fancy exploring more of the area, you can head inland to visit a number of market towns such as Framlingham or Woodbridge and discover more of the history of the area including visiting the Castle in Framlingham or the Saxon Burial ground at Sutton Hoo.
Beccles and Bungay are on the edge of the Broads National Park which is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and animals. There are opportunities to explore the waterways with a guided tour or hire your own boat and explore at your own pace.
