United KingdomThis is a great spot to stay if on a break to Alton Towers. The hosts are so welcoming! On a hot day, they even text us before we returned to arrange putting on the aircon for us.

United KingdomLocation in the quaint village of Oakamoor. Close to Alton Towers. Phil and Helen were excellent hosts, as were the rest of the staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Phil has no issue with making my eggs “sunny side up” with my full English breakfast for us Americans.

Phil and Helen
The Laurels is a large property that sits on the side of the fabulous Churnet Valley, overlooking the traditional village of Oakamoor. The rooms are light, airy and spotlessly clean. We have a large breakfast room where you can sample Helen's excellent breakfast and enjoy the large number of native birds that visit the many feeders we have outside. The views from the front of the property are of the village and the valley. We're surrounded by woods, streams and the river, which provides fantastic opportunities for walking, picnicking and cycling. Our outdoor areas provide plenty of seating and the opportunity to relax in the open air and enjoy the views and the local wildlife.
Having worked in the corporate world for many years, we were lucky enough to spend a lot of time travelling. This also meant we had the opportunity to sample a LOT of hotels and B&Bs. Armed with this experience and our ideas of what we wanted from a B&B we decided to 'put our money where our mouth is' and do it ourselves! Obviously you'll be the judge of whether we've succeeded or not, but we strive to provide a friendly, welcoming and comfortable stay for every single one of our guests, where you can relax in warm and spotlessly clean surroundings that feel like home, for as long as you want to stay. We both love the countryside, wildlife and walking, so our village is just perfect. We get to enjoy our surroundings and have the chance to walk in the woods, along the canals or rivers and just relax whenever we get the chance. As a bonus, we also get to meet thousands of different people every year who want to spend a small part of their life in our house. We look forward to meeting you.
The most common comment we hear, when our guests arrive for the first time is, "I didn't realise it was so beautiful round here!" Our mission then, is to try and get as many people as possible to sample the delights of The Churnet Valley and our surrounding area. Essentially, if you fancy doing any of the following, this is the place to be; Walking, cycling, thrill seeking, climbing, abseiling, canoeing, visiting historic houses, gardens, theme parks, museums, steam railways, throwing or decorating your own pots, eating, drinking and a whole bunch more! Clearly one day really isn't long enough to sample what our area has to offer, so why not treat yourself to a longer stay.
