Hartree Lodge is situated within the private grounds of the majestic Scottish Baronial Hartree House. With over 30 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland to explore, the experience of staying is a tonic for those wanting to get away from it all, to top up on the fresh Borders air and to take in the spectacular vistas of the Scottish Southern Uplands. It is a perfect base for forays to Edinburgh or Glasgow, both only an hour or so away by road. For those keen to leave the bustle behind, there are woodlands, lakes and meadows alive with wildlife to explore. The house itself is an original Victorian Lodge house with our eco-lux twist. The simple, yet luxurious scandi-inspired decor compliments the tranquility of its rural setting.

Hartree Estates was established in 2014. We are a small, family run business, passionate about preserving the little bit of magic that we fell in love with over a decade ago. As the latest custodians of Hartree we are committed to local sustainable sourcing, reflected in the biodynamic principles by which we run the estate. We have planted hundreds of native tress (including chestnut saplings raised here from our existing trees). We have raised an orchard comprising some of Scotlands oldest apple varieties along with pears, plums, quince and damsons. Our bog pond and lakes are maturing, bringing with them some new and exciting visitors and others who have made us their home. Swathes of the parkland have been planted to meadows and hundreds of meters of RSPB-approved wildlife hedging cultivated. We allow a very limited number of bespoke tipi weddings within the grounds each year and provide a small number of exceptional quality holiday accomodation. This is a home primarily and our weddings and holiday rentals are limited and totally exclusive, preserving all that is unique, secluded and special about us.

We are blessed to have the historic market town of Biggar on our doorstep (1.5 miles). Associated with various historical figures, including William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie, the main street still reflects its past as a market town and is home to a variety of independents including museums, grocers, book shop, ice-cream and chocolate shop. For stunning hillwalking or mountain-biking we are ten minutes from Tinto with its commanding views over the Clyde Valley and Coulter Fell. For those wanting a retreat in striking distance of the big smoke and its many festivals (e.g. Tattoo, Film, Food, Hogmanay, Fringe), we are situated only 29 miles from Edinburgh and around an hours drive from Glasgow. Our nature loving outdoors types can enjoy a host of walking routes including the John Buchan Way only 6 miles away. Broughton breweries, BiggarGin, Glentress in Peebles (18 miles), Little Sparta (the garden created by artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finlay) and the Pentland Hills are all nearby. The Rivers Clyde and Tweed for canoeing, fishing and walking are local and Loch Lomond, the gateway to the highlands is only 1.5hrs away.
