Host very friendly and helpful, no problem finding aplace for our tandem. every detail catered for.

Loved the garden , everything was beautifully thought out and immaculate. The breakfast was delicious and was unexpectedly laid out in the garden for us which was a wonderful surprise .

We stayed in the Melford room which was amazing- it was sparkling clean, beautifully decorated and the massive bath was great. Breakfast each morning was delicious and Paul the host was lovely. The mill is well located, it’s a very short walk to the high street where there’s little tea rooms and plenty of pubs and nice food places. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend away in the area.

We really appreciated the attention to detail in the room- quality tea and coffee with fresh milk; lush pillows and bedding and superb toiletries provided. The breakfast was amazingly good. And it was a very short walk into the pretty village to the pubs and good places to eat out. Certainly one of the best places we’ve stayed and thoroughly recommended.

We stayed in the melford room on the 13th December for one night, and can honestly say it was one of the nicest places we have stayed. The room is just stunning and all the extra touches made it so special. After what has been a trying year trying to book trips, it was so nice to get away, especially to somewhere so lovely. Paul was very friendly and left us to our own devices. We loved the room so much we didn’t even manage to get up for breakfast as it was so relaxing just lounging in the robes. Lovely stay and we will be back! Thank you

Breakfast was excellent, best breakfast I’ve ever had, staff so friendly and accommodating and couldn’t do anymore if they tried! Will definitely be staying again.

There was a variety of choice for the very generous and delicious breakfast. The accommodation was comfortable and tastefully decorated to a very high standard.

The Mill at Long Melford is a great place for a short stay. The room is equipped to a very high standard with an excellent bathroom and very comfortable bed. The owners are very friendly without imposing on your stay. Long Melford has a wide choice of place to eat out, and some very interesting antiques and bric-a-brac shops. A very enjoyable stay. Will most likely visit again.

A beautiful place that is loved by the owners! We were treated wonderfully by Paul. Couldn't have asked for anything more, would highly recommend to anyone.

The owners provided a superb breakfast, really tasty local meat produce and their own eggs. No need for lunch 😊

Host Info
The Mill in Long Melford is owned & managed by Paul & Clare. Situated within the grounds of a former working mill & overlooking the stately mansion of Melford Hall, The Mill provides the perfect place to stay in the centre of Long Melford! In 2019, The Mill featured twice in The Sunday Times travel magazine; being described as one of the most alluring B&B's in the UK and there has also coverage in The Guardian newspaper, recommending The Mill in their 'top 40 cosy hotels, B&B's & pubs for the winter' article (November 2019). The accommodation has been inspected and selected by Sawdays and is presented in Sawdays 'great British B&B guide'. The Mill has a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence. The Mill has just two, bespoke rooms which are located in a restored cottage, seperate to the main house of the owners. They are beautifully furnished and have private off road parking and their own individual entrances, offering both privacy and flexibility so guests can come and go with ease.
The Melford Room is open plan and spacious offering a real sense of space. It features a sumptuous, handmade, freestanding brass and nickel bath in the living area and beautiful hand polished cast iron radiators. There is a seperate en-suite bathroom and shower with luxury tiles. A small outdoor seating area offers a lovely vista toward the soaring spires of Melford Hall. The Garden Room is calm and relaxing, and has a charming garden for the exclusive use of its guests; a delight in the summer months! The garden is perfect for eating breakfast al fresco or cooking an evening barbeque. A wood burner is installed for the winter which makes for a very romantic stay. The spacious en-suite is complemented by a beautiful cast iron slipper bath and large walk in shower. Both rooms are very generous in size measuring apx 300ft2. and have large, wall mounted televisions. The rooms are on the ground floor, making them accessible, forming part of a Grade II listed cottage that used to serve the working mill in times gone by.
Completely renovated in 2018 and brought back to their former glory, the Grade II listed cottage and Hall Mill house can be found on Historic England's Heritage list. The location of The Mill is superb, with the high street and the nearest pub and restaurant less than a minutes' walk away. A couple of steps east from the main gate of The Mill brings guests to the square pond and moat of Melford Hall. For those wanting a more tranquil stay in Long Melford, The Mill is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy high street yet its position provides immediate access to all the village has to offer, just a few strides from The Mill. Enjoy a hearty home cooked breakfast taken in the conservatory of the main house before exploring the village and further afield. To compliment your stay, The Mill offers free use of sit on kayaks and bicycles, enabling guests to navigate the delightful river Stour in Sudbury or the numerous cycle routes in and around the village.
