The Old Vicarage....is believed to have been originally built in the 17th century by a local landowner as part of a larger estate. The deeds show that the farm was sold in 1725 and thereafter had a succession of owners who worked as farmers, saddlers and tradesmen until bought by the then vicar of West Witton, Reverend William H. Whaley in1869. Reverend Whaley and his wife Alice Elizabeth came here after his graduation fro Cambridge University and had a son William John Whaley, who ultimately became a vicar and took over from his father in 1912 and remained as vicar until 1935.
