Beautiful country hotel in gorgeous surroundings on the edge of the lovely village of Scalby. Our room was big and bright. Staff were polite and helpful. We stayed 4 nights and I had something different for breakfast every day. Everything was delicious. We ate dinner twice there. Cannot fault the quality of food or service.

Located a few minutes from Scarborough's beaches and with ample parking this elegant country house is set in acres of private grounds on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, boasting breath-taking views across the Yorkshire countryside.

Wrea Head is surrounded by heather-filled moors and scenic dales to the spectacular Yorkshire heritage coastline.

Bedrooms are individually and classically designed, some with four-poster beds and all with pleasant views over the gardens. Guests at Wrea Head will have an private bathroom, and TV and tea/coffee-making facilities in their room.

The 1881 Restaurant is lit by gilt wall lights set above polished oak paneling, with views over the gardens and up to the moors. In the warmer months guests can enjoy drinks on the terrace, or cocktails in the bar’s bay window.

The town of Scarborough is only a 10-minute drive away.

  • do you do a honeymoon suite as we are getting married on the 24th july so want a few days away for our honeymoon

  • Are you dog friendly and what are the walks like near the hotel.

    Sorry but we do not take pets. There are many scenic walks nearby in the National Park and along the Heritage Coastline just a short distance from the hotel. We also have pleasant walks within the hotel grounds and across the fields to Scalby village

    We have two car parking areas, both within the hotel grounds. One is about 15 m from the front door of the hotel and the other about 40 m from the front door and nearer to the Carriage House.

  • How far is it to the open air theatre?

    About 2.5 miles. Taxis can be arranged through the hotel reception if required though for those who are driving, we have ample car parking space at the Hotel.

This stunning Gothic mansion with uninterrupted views across the Yorkshire countryside is arguably the best of all the Scarborough Hotels and just a short drive from the Yorkshire Heritage coast. Offering first class accommodation the hotel is home to one of the best restaurants in Scarborough "1881" serving delicious contemporary British cuisine in classic surroundings. For your short break or romantic weekend Wrea Head Hall offers you a relaxed and enjoyable stay in a perfect location to explore North Yorkshire and its attractions. Built in 1881 as a private home for the Ellis family, the mansion sits on an elevated piece of land known as Wrea Head Rigg from which the house gets its name. Now a much loved hotel, Wrea Head Hall still retains the feeling of an historic country house. You will find that all hotel bedrooms are contained within the mansion or adjacent Carriage House. The mansion is built of local honey coloured stone in the romantic Gothic style, adorned with gargoyles, stained glass windows and a bell tower.

Wrea Head Hall is ideally located to access the seaside resort and beaches of Scarborough just a few minutes drive away and the dramatic North York Moors National Park . We are well placed to visit local attractions such as Whitby, Goathland,Filey and Robin Hood's Bay as well as many other locations along the Heritage Coast.
