The only thing was we were in a disablity room not a problem but the green light above the door inside the room was annoying and the gap around the door was too deep so the light shone in.

Right in the town centre, lovely old hotel, big bedroom, great range of drinks at the bar and fab prices too. Walking distance of everything you need, shops, bars,restaurants etc. Thirsk is lovely and the availability of walking / places of interest is very good, most just a short drive away. Close to North Yorkshire Moors. We would happily stay here again

This old coaching inn with a traditional welcome rests in the center of a Yorkshire market town, made famous by James Herriot.

The Three Tuns Hotel is close to both the A1 and the A19 for business travelers and 2 national parks for those with more time to spare. The hotel is less than an hour's drive from York, Harrogate and Durham. The hotel lies between 2 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Built in 1698 by the local lords of the manor, by 1740 it was a coaching inn. It still retains many of its original features including the staircase and paneled dining room. The original stables still exist today. There is a bar that serves real ale.

The most famous guests were William Wordsworth, accompanied by his sister Dorothy, who stayed in 1802, and James Herriot, better known in Thirsk as Alf Wight. Alf wrote about his life as a country vet in books such as 'All Creatures Great and Small', and regularly came in for liquid inspiration. His old surgery is nearby and is now a visitors' center.

Couples in particular like the location – they rated it 9.4 for a two-person trip.

    Prices start from £3.40 for a small breakfast; Fried egg, bacon, sausage and a hash brown up to £5.35 for a large breakfast consisting of two fried eggs, bacon, two sausages, baked beans, mushroom, tomato and two slices of toast. Tea and coffee is unlimited for £1.50.

  • Hi do you have parking?

    At the present moment we do not have parking on-site. There is parking on the market square which is free between 6 pm and 8 am. Alternatively there are car parks nearby.

    At the present time we do not have private parking available. However you can park at the front of the Hotel. This is free between 6 pm and 8 am and chargeable at other times. It is also free all day on Sundays.
