I visit Stratford mainly for the RSC, but apart from that it is a very pleasant place to spend an hour or two wandering around and in particular, wandering around the various places associated with Shakespeare. In particular, I enjoy the short walk along the river bank to the church where Shakespeare is buried. For eating I would recommend The Vintner, which serves excellent and reasonably priced food throughout the day, in a very pleasant ambience, and is perfect for a pre-theatre supper.

I went to see a show at the theatre and turned it into a long weekend. There are a number of extremely good museums and places to visit, I've been to Shakespeare's birthplace before and it was great, this time I visited Tudor World and the Guild Hall/ Schoolroom, both of which I spent over an hour in and were fascinating.
The schoolroom in particular I highly recommend, brilliant volunteers and very interesting. Love the bookshops and cafes around town, and of course the world class theatres.

At this time of year (March) it's very pleasant - not too overrun with visitors. But cold! Stay centrally is a good idea as parking and driving in the centre generally is tricky. The waterfront, parks and area around the theatres and the church are beautiful. Lots of places to eat, although be warned - it's hard to find restaurants still serving after 9pm. People eat very early here, even if they're not going to the theatre. If you're visiting any of the Shakespeare sites get there early. We had a wonderfully peaceful visit to the church when it was opening, but as we left the groups were already streaming in. (NB you have to pay to see the Shakespeare memorial.)

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre is excellent with high production values. The Main theatre also has a small studio theatre the Swan which is beautiful and the Other Place is just down the road so lots to experience. The theatre also has a tower which is worth a visit to look at the coutryside around and down the river to Trinity church. Trinity church is well worth a visit if only to see Shakespeare's grave. The boats on the river Avon are called after Shakespeare's plays. Some interesting buildings around which are half timbered.

A town steeped in Shakespearean history and a number of very old buildings of character. Beautiful riverside walk from Clopton Bridge to Trinity Church passing the famous RSC theatre where outstanding performances of Shakespeare's works and other playwrights can be seen.
Many excellent restaurants and coffee bars, too many to mention but favourites include The Woodsman at Hotel Indigo on Chapel Street and Vintners on Sheep Street.
Tourist attractions include town and ghost walks, boating on the river, Shakespeare's birthplace on Wood Street, his last property at New Place, his daughter's home at Halls Croft, his resting place within Trinity Church, all within walking distance of each other. Around April 23rd sees the town celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with processions and special events.

Our stay at Baraset Barn Hotel was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and breakfast here and both were above our expectations. It was delicious and the best meals we've had out for a long while. The rooms were spacious, modern and clean with great views over the fields. We said hello to some lovely sheep haha! 🐑
This is certainly a hotel we are keeping noted for when we are back around Stratford upon Avon as I would definitely stop here again. Best hotel by far I've stayed in.
It was an easy walk into Stratford-on-Avon and there was parking available, which were the two things I was looking for when we looked for somewhere to stay.
The cleanliness of our room and its ensuite, the dining room, and the entrance hall was exceptional.
The cooked breakfast was one of the best I have had in any hotel, guest house, or B&B. The ingredients used were clearly high quality and there was not a trace of oil or grease. Our host was friendly, cheerful and helpful.
A lovely old style hotel with old wooden beams, very comfortable bedroom, bar and restaurant, breakfast was good continental and cocked, dinner haddock and chips perfectly cooked. Hotel in centre of Stratford upon Avon. Close by was open-air surface car-park which charged £7 for 24 Hours.
Ideal location for exploring all the beautiful things Stratford upon Avon offers. We took our little dog and the very pleasant hotel reception staff gave him a doggy welcome pack which was very thoughtful. The staff were so helpful. Very nice breakfast and staff.
We used to live in Stratford upon Avon and now live in Wales. The family all met up to celebrate my auntie's 90th birthday. The location and facilities were perfect. We particularly liked the Terrace Restaurant and all the staff were excellent! We'll be back.
Lovely hotel, great staff and warm welcome. Great evening meal in the restaurant and good breakfast! 👍 Visited Stratford upon Avon for the Christmas market and was pleased with our decision to stay a short drive outside of the town centre as it was so busy.
Lovely venue in great location. Right next to Charlecote Park and with a bus stop outside to get to Stratford Upon Avon. the staff were so friendly and helpful. We didn’t eat at the hotel but there’s a restaurant and bar area. Highly recommend
