A return visit to a characterful hall with friendly, welcoming staff and good quality breakfast. Thank you again. We'll be back
United KingdomA friend and I stumbled upon this jewel of a place on booking.com when we couldn't find any accommodation in the north of England for a couple of night's stay. The place would be great value at almost any price but £30 pp/pn bed and breakfast was a steal. My only gripe was that it wasn't obvious from booking.com that the wonderful breakfast was included in the price, it simply said that a meal deal was not available. If staying B&B, it is a couple of miles into the nearest town or village to find supper but the local taxi companies were prompt, courteous and relatively cheap.
United KingdomThe staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The premises are impressive and the accommodation first rate. Even the breakfast exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Waddow Hall for good value and a splendid setting.
United KingdomAn amazing venue in beautiful grounds. Arrived at night so didn’t get the scale until the morning.
United KingdomThis is a countryside establishment that deserves its 9 out of 10 rating. From arrival I was greeted nicely and shown round the mansion. My room was large and traditional with original wooden beams and had a direct view of Clitheroe castle. The grounds of the hotel feature the gorgeous River Ribble. Plenty of forest as well if you like trees. Breakfast was large and fresh. Go for the full English, of course. Limitless freshly brewed coffee too. Would recommend. Instead of staying in Manchester make the effort and stay at Waddow

Host Info
The Waddow Hall Estate was owned by wealthy cotton magnates until it was sold to The Guide Association in 1927. It has been run by them ever since as a training and activity centre. The hall is now open to everyone, on days when it's not being used for training, and provides an ideal and unique place to stay. The original house was built in the sixteenth century, and was extended in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras, and also in the latter quarter of the twentieth century to provide meeting and conference rooms. The bedrooms reflect the styles of all these times in history - some with huge Tudor oak floorboards, some with high Georgian ceilings, and many with Victorian fireplaces still in situ. The first floor rooms were used by the wealthy family members, whilst the top floor with its quirky beams housed the servants and children. Many of the bedrooms, and all the public rooms, have a stunning view across the front lawn, sweeping down to the river, the weir and over to Clitheroe Castle and Pendle Hill in the distance. Waddow Hall doesn't have a unique selling point - the whole place is completely unique, and all profits support the charity in the future.
Waddow Hall is situated a mile outside the bustling market town of Clitheroe, at the heart of the stunning Ribble Valley in rural Lancashire. The town itself has much to offer, from the busy market, artisanal shops and Norman Castle and museum, which boast the smallest Norman keep in Britain. The area is perfect for walkers, as much of the Valley is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, and provides miles of walks for all abilities, including the famous Tolkein Trail, as JRR Tolkein wrote much of The Lord of the Rings whilst staying locally. The town is noted as a food capital of Britain, with locally made sausages and cheeses being particularly popular. And it is reputed that should HM The Queen be able to retire, it is to this part of her Kingdom that she would head. Praise indeed, so why not come and see for yourself?
