Great little break, very relaxing. Accommodation was quiet and incredibly clean. The staff were very polite, friendly and accommodating. I can’t fault the place really.

Duncan United Kingdom

The pictures for this property in no way does it justice. I have never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast so immaculate and stylish. The fixtures and fittings are superb as were the staff and food. You must stay here!!

Connie United Kingdom

Newly remodeled, the property is immaculate and tastefully decorated. Emiko is a wonderful host that takes pride in her attention to detail. Great breakfast, and the dinner we had the night we arrived was superb. Cozy bar with nice selection of single malts and gin.

Albert United States of America

Wayside is not just about the place to stay - no matter how tastefully the old farm had been converted to the first class up to date accommodation. The thing which actually makes Wayside what it is, is the experience. We spent an extraordinary week at Wayside while our hosts, Emiko and Dan were always ready to go one step further to ensure that we could enjoy everything the Lake District has to offer. Thank you very much, guys!

Jan Czech Republic

Great location easy to find super friendly staff great facilities and lovely food

Fiona United Kingdom

My friend and I stayed in the twin bed room and absolutely loved how comfortable it was and how cute the en-suite bathroom was too. The hosts were so friendly and helpful, especially when car issues made us super late to check in. The location is perfect if you’re coming to Cumbria for outdoor activities - in our case riding at Cumbrian Heavy Horses!

Ploy United Kingdom

The property is situated in a stunning & peaceful part of the Lake District. While it may be a little drive to get to the more, tourist attractions of the Lake District, it is well worth the drive through the country roads. The staff here are brilliant, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is great, with good and tasty options for all. The rooms are comfy, warm and so relaxing. We often tried to get back to the room so we could spend more time in the property due to it being so tranquil. We really loved our stay here and can’t thank Emiko and staff for such a beautiful stay!!

Lauren United Kingdom

The property itself is finished to a high standard in keeping with the original building and characteristics. Very spacious rooms and clean. The owner and staff are very welcoming and accommodating also being very knowledgeable on the local area. The breakfasts are great with continental and english breakfast and the restaurant in the evening was very good too. Lots of room to park the car.

  • Hello, I hope you're well and coping through these times. I am very much looking forward to visiting you again soon. On my last stay with you you kindly sold me a bottle of The Lakes No.1 - I am trying to buy the No. 2 but can't seem to find it, do you have 1 that i could buy from you?

Thank you for your message regarding availability of The Lakes No.2 whisky. Unfortunately No.2 was all sold out, but we still have No.3 and Colheita Port Cask bottles in stock.

  • Hi My wife and I have booked a walk up Scafell Pike and wondered how far you are from Seathwaite Turning Circle. Many thanks Alfie

Hi Alfie, It is about 35 min drive to Seathwaite from The Wayside, through the lovely Duddon Valley. We have hosted many people who did Scafell Pike, and we offer packed lunch for hikers too.

    Asked about: Twin Room
  • Hi, I am enquiring to see how convenient it is from your property if we wanted to climb the Haystacks, Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Pillar? Kind Regards, Harjot Panesar

You can use The Wayside as a base camp to climb those fells. As space is very limited here, please ask us directly for more details.

If you are looking for a place to relax and to explore beautiful landscapes in the Lake District without busy traffic, look no further! The Wayside is at the bottom of Black Combe, the highest hill in England, that we have direct private access up our private lane. It is a superb place to walk or cycle (mountain bikes). The quiet and long sandy beach is 5 min drive away or 25 min walk from The Wayside. It's direct access to the main road also provides an easy access to wide areas: western, central and south Lake District. It's building is full of characters with original features, yet it provides modern comfort; we have underfloor heating and slate floors downstairs and our ultra-fast Wifi ensures you can catch up with your loved one home during your stay. The atmosphere is very relaxed as is the dress code. If you want a chilled out place to stay this is the place to be with home cooked food and good wines as well as an extensive range of whiskies to sample and buy.

After living in many counties in UK and also in different locations within the Lake District, we fell in love with the location where The Wayside is. We love to share the beauty of the area with our guests and we would like to make sure that our guests have a great time during their stay at The Wayside. We are also dog owners of three dogs (two black Labrador dogs and one Czechoslovakian wolfdog), and and would like to extend our welcome to any well-behaved dogs too.

There are horse riding stables nearby both of which have beach and fell rides, the zoo is about 40 minutes away and Ravenglass mini steam train and Muncaster Castle are approx 20 minutes away. Muncaster Castle have lots of themed days during winter and summer, great fun for all the family. The kite festival is held every year at Haverigg, there are country fairs throughout the summer season, boating on the lakes, fishing, if you like the outdoor life this area is ideal to visit.

    Verified reviews from real guests.

We have more than 70 million property reviews, all from real, verified guests.

    How does it work?

    • 1

      It starts with a booking

      It starts with a booking

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

      Followed by a trip

      Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property, they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff is, and more.

      And finally, a review

      And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.
