Picturesque Winkle Street in Calbourne was originally known as Barrington Row and it was named after the Barrington family who owned the estate when the first cottages were built in the 1750s. You will almost certainly be visited by families of ducks that will be eager to be fed. Just a couple of minutes’ drive and you will find Calbourne Water Mill and Rural Museum. Set in 35 acres of rural landscape, this is the only working water mill on the Isle of Wight. Calbourne offers good accessibility by bicycle to the Military Road which is a cyclist’s paradise. Winkle Cottage has ample private and secure storage facilities for bicycles.
