With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Lapped acropolis several times (little alleys looking interesting) and hilly.
Athens sports bar tiny and not a lot of options for football.
Often felt ignored by some in hospitality but very welcomed by others. Quickly served food but slow for drinks and paying.
If I was to go again, I would stay in march (24 centigrade), near beach with nightlife and get the tour bus (which run every hour till 6/7) to do tourist stuff

Great public transportation options and we found that visiting the museums, countless historic and archaeological sites and enjoying the Greek cuisine are the reasons to visit Athens. The remainder consists of traffic, and unimaginable concrete urban sprawl, void of architecture or green spaces.

The temples and museum is a must!
The temples and museum is a must! But dont buy the hop-on-hop-off bus, its a waste of time and money as you will only see buildings, and houses. You will only feel that youre riding a shuttle bus rather than a sight seeing tour bus.

A incredible city!
A incredible city! My partner and I spent 7 days including travel days. There is something to see on every corner. We tried a different restaurant every night and didn’t find a bad one. We also found Artemis petissery for ice cream and visited every night for a different flavour.
We did all the main attractions, there are excellent multi pass tickets available from “get your guide” that get you in to all the main attractions.
We also took trips to the coast. EDEM is a great hub for this. Poseidons cafe is a lovely beach front cafe with great food and drink. We visited Kalamaki beach and Glyfada to swim in the sea. The public transport is excellent and you can be anywhere fast.
We also took a sunset trip to the temple of Poseidon, something I would highly recommend! It is incredible and key tours run an excellent trip.
Take a walk to Plaka for the shops. There are loads of wonderful small market shops and charming rustic buildings to see.
All in all I would highly recommended a visit if you have never been.

Whether you are into ancient history or contemporary culture...
Whether you are into ancient history or contemporary culture, Athens has something to offer you.
For history fans, this ancient city is a treasure trove. If you want to check out sites of ancient history, you would do well to buy the Athens combined ticket for EUR 30 (in 2024). Valid for five days, it offers access to major ancient sites (including the Acropolis, the ancient agora, the later Roman agora and the remains of Hadrian's library).
Not covered by the combined ticket are the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum. As the name suggests, the Acropolis Museum preserves works from the Acropolis - including sculptures on friezes and other bits of architecture that you would rarely get to see up close if you are not an archaeologist or restorer.
The National Archaeological Museum exhibits statues and other sculptures, as well as gold death masks - such as the famous gold "mask of Agamemnon".
Yet Greek culture continues to thrive into the modern age. Take time to go the National Gallery to get to know the works of artists from the 19th c to 21st c works - ie, since Greece (re)gained its independence. The museum also houses older works - including icons and paintings, including at least two elegant paintings by El Greco.
Finally, keep your eyes open for murals and street art. As in ancient times, these, too, are important expressions of Greek culture.

The city heart of Athens is a vibrant mix of people and cultures.
So many different facets to explore from the ancient to the modern.
Bust out your walking shoes and explore.
Take the hop on hop off bus (any company) and get around the rest of the city.
Markets are wonderful and Monasteraki square is soooo lively.
We belly danced to African music under the Acropolis.
Make the most of Athens and take in all the sights, smells and sounds.
I love this city.
This was my second visit to the Electra Palace and I brought my granddaughters (ages 14 and 15) for their first visit to Greece. I knew they would enjoy the Plaka/Monasteraki area of Athens and the hotel helped me book a private tour of the Acropolis and booked our last dinner on Lykavitos. Nikos, Dimitri, and Angeliki were amazing in helping us with every request. I love this hotel and Greece is my favorite country (lived in Athens for four years teaching). The Greek hospitality is legendary and this hotel epitomizes that ethos.
We had a great time during our stay in Greece. Despite initial concerns about check-in, the process was smooth and easy thanks to the hotel manager, Dimitris, who provided detailed instructions and was always available to answer our questions. The room was small but clean, comfortable and quiet. The kitchen was well equipped. The view of the Parthenon from the seventh floor was amazing. The apartment was in a great location, close to dining, shopping and attractions. We enjoyed walking around the city and seeing the sights.
Gorgeous hotel in the Plaka district of Athens. Steps away from a huge choice of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. Rey conveniently located to the metro from the airport, we arrived into Syntagma square and had an easy walk ( 5 or 6 minutes) to the hotel. Our room was beautiful, and had a fab view of the Acropolis. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace had an even better view and the service, setting and food was one of the best breakfasts I’ve eaten in a hotel. Highly recommend the Electra Palace if you are staying in Athens.
nice flat in athens, greece. The best host ever! Clean space and easy communication with them - I highly recommend staying here if you're planning a visit to Athens. At first glance it may seem like this apartment is just another boring hotel room but don't worry because your new home has all of amenities necessary for any traveler: comfortable bedding/ pillows ( Sheet panelles police!), free WiFi access along side kitchen amenities such as pots pans cups dishes etc., private bathroom complete wth shower.
The best hotel we stayed on our trip to Greece. Super nice location ( in the street where Kook Restaurant is, so only few steps to the Bar and Restaurant area) Lovely hotel with beautiful and large rooms, wonderful and very nice owner, stunning rooftop bar (not serviced yet but is planned), all day free drinks (water, Juice) and food (croissants, snacks) Very good breakfast. This is our most favorite hotel in Athens and we would love to come back soon. This is how you should run a hotel :-)
This is the second time that my family has stayed at this remarkable apartment. We liked it so much last year that we wanted to return. Odyssey Residence deserves the glowing reviews it receives. It is comfortable, very clean, and well equipped. The washer, dishwasher, and elevator are all extra appreciated, and it is a rare find in Athens to get 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in 1 apartment. My family plans to make this home base whenever we are in Greece.
The location was ideal as I was travelling from Athens the next day on the Ktel bus to Delphi. It was a short walk from the bus station. It was especially good as my Barclays account and the Greek bus company could not work together and I was unable to reserve my bus tickets until I got to Greece. Staying at the Roy meant I could go in person the day before I travelled. The hotelier explained the safety features of the room to me, which was excellent.
Breakfasts are superb and a bargain at the price and we also had the evening meal which again was at a great price for excellent food, compared to Athens outlets and coffee was best I had during my time in Greece never mind Athens.
Room Tv even had UK football available - a real bonus for me and location was perfect for all means of transport only a few minutes from main bus/metro/rail/taxi/tram terminals. Cannot praise the helpful staff enough.
Snob's location was fantastic as it was located within a short walking distance to most of the sites we visited. The restaurant/bar was delicious and the service was great. The hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. They gave us very helpful insight on how to get around Greece and even arranged transportation for us at no cost. The aesthetic of the hotel/restaurant was stunning!
Second post covid stay. One night Only between trips to mountains and the islands. Pleasant surprise when bus from Peloponnese dropped us 100m from the hotel. As a base for touring Greece and Athens the Cosmos is ideal. They even have a cold drinks machine in the lobby stocked with beer. Aircon set at 25 degrees which is a bit warm for me as I like to sleep cold
Loved the location ,a short walk from syntagma square ,bus from airport stops here.It is just around the corner from Plaka.
We were allowed into our early as we had an early flight into Athens. This was brilliant. Room very good ,quiet .Breakfast excellent .Whats not to like with a view of Acropolis. Service excellent. This hotel was a find .
The hotel is new and very clean. The roof terrace was a lovely surprise. The service was excellent - by far the best during our trip to Greece. The rooms are compact but wasn’t an issue for us and the bed was very comfortable. The view from the room (505) was great! We will stay here again if we re-visit Athens
Hotel is modern.
Nice lighting.
We had to stay one night while our trip through Greece...
Yet, on the floor above us there was a couple.
They had sex 4 times, each time 15-20 minutes, with a pause of 15 minutes between...
I was very ashame and embarrassed while my wife was extremely curious who was the guy...
Claridge Hotel located in the heart of Athens - capital of Greece- is a very convenient place to stay combining near transportation of all kind (METRO, TRAINS, BUSES, TAXI) with comfort rooms in low hotel rates. Shops, restaurants and archaeological places are in a close distance as well.
the staff was very friendly, the restaurant had great food at reasonable prices and the included breakfasts were fantastic! we stayed at over 10 different hotels over three weeks in Greece and Polis by far had the best breakfasts!
Spacious apartment in an amazing location. Air conditioner worked well. The host’s recommendation for Dimitrios for our airport taxi driver was excellent, he was very friendly and knowledgeable about Athens and Greece.
It's located right off Monastiraki Square, a large shopping district in Athens, Greece. I love the area, and you can walk to most of the popular attractions in Athens.
Close proximity to the airport. Excellent room and very attentive staff. Had a great dinner at the hotel restaurant. Perfect way to end our trip to Greece.
