Wanda was an exceptional host, and To Spiti Mas is an incredible stay that we can't speak highly enough of. Her husband met us at the hotel upon our arrival and showed us the property. The beautifully designed apartment has a spiral staircase that leads from a cosy living space and kitchen on the first floor, to an upstairs bedroom with a balcony overlooking the surrounding mountain range. A close drive to Sougia, where there are many great options for dinner - including Wanda's family restaurant, Rebetiko. A great place from which to explore the nearby gorges: Samaria, and Agia Irini.
Offering a traditional restaurant and a sun terrace, the family-run Porofarago is located in Sougia, just 98 feet from the entrance to Agia Eirini Gorge. Free WiFi access is available in all areas.

Great room, great breakfast, free parking, and great staff. We met people that return year after year. That in itself says it all.

It was very quiet as it is November, so end of the tourist season, but nice. The weather is still perfectly fine to go to the beach, there are still some restaurants and bars open. It's a nice little quiet place to go hike or stay on the beach without the crowds of Chania or Heraklion.

Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge,...
Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge, approximately 1.5hrs drive from Chania airport (we rented a car) It has a couple of mini markets and a couple of gift shops but the main street hosts mainly tavernas. The beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water. You have access to bus, ferry and taxi services allowing you to explore the surrounding area. We have stayed in Sougia 4 times and we love the tranquility and beautiful mountainscape.

Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city...
Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city hustle. Quite the feeling of hippie lifestyle, with relaxed attitude towards nudists. The beach has both areas for people who enjoy to swim with swimwear, and without. There are several tents around the far end of the beach, and the atmosphere in bars and restaurants is relaxed.
Great place for walkers as well as those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Daily ferry service, and one bus service.
I stayed in Lissos rooms which was lovely and quiet, and ate in Livikon which had excellent grilled king prawns, and the fabulous lamb and beans dish

What a place.
What a place. Only one hour walk (or 7 minute taxi ride costing only 10 euro) to reach Sougia from the monastery estate guesthouse.
Locals were friendly and took the time to chat to you about your travel plans / share local knowledge. The food in every taverna we ate in was high quality fresh local produce and the prices very reasonable. Could pass an entire day on the sunloungers, listening to the sea then going for some Greek food, then watching sunset. Also Lissos is nearby - we didn't manage to visit but we took a boat trip to palaiochora beach which was lovely. Didn't beat Sougia though!

Strategically a great place for the Samaria and Irini Gorges. We self catered so didn’t go into town other than to the mini markets where you can buy everything. The ferry to Agia Roumelli and Paelochora go from here too.

Sougia is the place to stay.
Sougia is the place to stay. Small and quiet but with a good choice of restaurants. A bus leaves every morning at 7am for the Samaria Gorge entrance. The boat leaves to bring you back at 5.30pm. Perfect.
The location is set back into the hills above Sougia which was very pleasant. Has a lovely view over looking the hills.
The house is well set up for cooking etc.
It’s located about 10 minute drive to the beach , great swimming, a section of the beach is for nudists though. Easy parking at beach.
there is plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. However, we’d recommend the Taverna across the road as the food we have was great.
Wanda is lovely, was kinda enough to leave us a treat, some wine, good coffee.
To Spiti mas is a completely renovated traditional house in a quiet village in a perfect location for people who are looking for authentic places close to nature.
The food in the area is great and locally sourced. Very conveniently just across the street is a very nice family taverna and only 10 min driving away is Sougia from where you can take shuttle boats to other beaches, or buses to the Samaria and Agia Irini gorges.
The hosts are very kind and helpful, and we were overall very happy with our choice.
Great little apartment in Sougia. Very convenient to all the local hiking trails, private parking, not far from the restaurants but not in the middle of things so pretty quiet at night. Wifi was out in the whole area for part of our stay and was mediocre when it was working but way out there it's not unexpected. Very comfortable and clean! I recommend buying groceries in Chania if you're going to cook while you're there.
A nice place to stay in Sougia. Parking is a short walk down the street. The host was extremely friendly and helpful, making sure we had a place to sit on the beach, and recommending a restaurant a minute's walk away (which turned out to be excellent). He also gave good advice on hiking Irene Gorge and to Lissos. I'd happily stay here again.
Conveniently located but quiet. A very small well run family owned hotel a block off the beach. Helene also owns the small convenience store next door, great for ice, wine or what have you. We stayed in the top floor apartment with the loft bedroom. The apartment has everything you’ll need for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks.
Our stay at Syia hotel has been super great!
The staff was welcoming and caring, the room was big with a terrace and all the facilities we needed. The location is simply wonderful, in the center of Sougia, the perfect place if you need to disconnect and relax.
I hope to come back to Sougia and to Syia hotel in the future!
The best thing about this room is it has a hammock to take your afternoon siesta in .
The manager Chris is amazing as well so helpful with a really personable way about him .
The bed was comfortable & the room a good size .
Don’t book anywhere else in Sougia this is the place to stay .
The Syia Hotel is a lovely place to stay while visiting Sougia. Marcos went out of his way to make certain that we had everything we needed, and his hospitality couldn’t have been better! The studio is spacious, clean and very quietly located just off the beaten track.
lovely studio and warm welcoming people. very well appointed with everything we needed. we were about 150 metres from the sea and Sougia has great places to eat amd drink. a very chilled and relaxed place to stay. Parking on site
we will stay in these studios again
The host was extremely helpful and friendly. The private courtyard was lovely to sit in with complimentary wine after the journey to Sougia. The hotel was on the edge of town so rather quiet and peaceful. It was only a few minutes stroll to the town and the sea.
We really liked the location of the hotel, which gives great privacy and calmness. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was super friendly and kind, and always available to help and accommodate us.
Everything was perfect, cleaned every day, comfortable, bright, airy. Possible to prepare snacks and cook in the kitchenette. The owners have the best taverna in Sougia. The mosquito repellents were a nice touch.
Single room was best value for money for Sougia. Guests have access to a small shared kitchen where basic meals can be prepared. My room had a balcony with a drying rack and a table with a chair. Friendly host.
clean and good looking hotel with apartments. Fabulous shower. the manager is superfriendly and leaving luggage and bikes for half a day was taken care of by the hotel too
Super helpful staff! Lovely natural esthetics and room with private pool was perfect after hiking Samaria Gorge. Local taverna just above the hotel was fantastic!
