Kythira is an oasis. The island where the Goddess of love, Aphrodite, spawned from the shores of Paliopoli and where Paris and Helen escaped from Sparta and were married. Katouni is a smaller village of Livadi, connected to it by the famous Katouni Bridge - built by the British during occupation, as the general fell in love with a girl on the other side. Our house is an oasis within an island of immense natural beauty. In my opinion, Katouni is a special place. The birthplace of my grandfather.
I am writer based in Kythira, Greece. I love to read, history and to share my passion of place. My partner, Carla, is also a creative soul, who dabbles in sewing and is building her own for-purpose organisation to aid people seeking asylum. We are both passionate about equality! I don't live far away at all, a house in the same village and can be as available as you want and need. I would be happy to share with you my secrets of the island and offer any recommendations. I love Kythira a lot and enjoy sharing that with people so much. It owns my heart.
Katouni is a quiet village. At night, with the lights off, you can see the stars and hear the wind rustle through the valley. The lights and sounds of Livadi are in the distant and a walk away if desired. On Wednesday afternoon there is a street market in Livadi and you can purchase amazing local products - Kythirian Honey is the best in the world!!! I would advise you to hire a car. There is an excellent hire car company called Drakakis rent-a-car and I can help you with organizing that at the best price. Kythira also has taxi services, but no buses. There are great walking routes to explore the island and we have plenty of maps at the house you can take and use.
