Holy Week, the alfombras and the processions, is unforgettable. A must see. Antigua is carefully curated to maintain the traditional facades. Even the Burger King and Starbucks are in old buildings. No big trucks or buses in the town. Wide variety of good restaurants. Many small hotels and hostels. People open up their homes to sell food or give accommodations. Huge crowds in places, mostly Central Americans. Town is quiet. Tons of tourist junk to buy. The town is on a grid system so it is impossible to get lost.

Antigua is a very beautiful colonial city.
Antigua is a very beautiful colonial city. There are many old cathedrals in various conditions. There are two that are easily accessible and you certainly want to take a look inside. The La Mercede is at one end of the main tourist area and the other is at parque central, in the middle of the town. You can also spend a few hours making your own chocolates and learning about the history of chocolate. It jade is of interest, there are tours of jade factories near the square. At he edge of town, about 15 min on foot, sits an organic vegetable farm that has delicious fresh foods. If the textiles are of interest, don't miss a visit to Nim Pot. Here you will find an amazing collection of textiles for sale from all over Guatemala along with wooden and ceramic items, and of course coffee and chocolate. If you want a taste of local shopping, take a short walk to the local market where you can fin everything you would need for daily life and souvenirs all in one place.

We happened to be there during the Lenten celebrations that take place every Sunday 4 weeks before Easter so we were happy to see the procession. The city was very crowded but it was so interesting to observe all that was going on. The city is nice just to spend time in. It is easy to walk around the central areas and there are many options for eating. As well there are many options for day trips from here.

Exquisitely clean.
Exquisitely clean. A great base location for visiting Guatemala. We made side trips to Lake Atitlan, vulcan Pacaya, and Tikal. Some basic electrical maintenance is needed for the lighting and the hot tub.

Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. It is famous for its Spanish colonial buildings, many of them restored after the 1773 earthquake that ended Antigua's 200-year rule as the colonial capital of Guatemala. Some notable examples of the architecture include La Merced, a low yellow and white church in the Baroque style. It is an integral part of the famous Holy Week in the city, with parades and rituals

Stunning property - the best in Antigua (and I’ve stayed at the top 3 hotels including Porta Hotel Antigua - second best, and Pensativo House Hotel). The hotel has beautiful ruins/museum and every part of it is magical. While my room had an interior courtyard view so was a bit dark - it was very large and extremely comfortable. You must spend some time at their spa, one of the more beautiful spas I’ve been to. The food was good (and had tons of gluten free options including pizza, pasta and bread wow!)
This was my second time visiting Antigua Guatemala. I appreciated the hot showers and the beautiful garden here (bring your insect repellent!). For me, the hotel was not too far of a walking distance from the center of Antigua. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the plaza but there are tuk tuks along the way if you don’t want to walk. Blanqui was very kind and attentive during my stay and handled everything even though she was sick. She was patient with my Spanish!
Staff was so helpful, they went beyond. I needed help contacting my transportation and they helped me and arrange everything so I didn’t have to worry. They also helped me with a map and I could leave my luggage even after my check out. Plus it’s a nice spot to take pictures in a quite place, ~8 mins walking distance from the center. Shout out to Genessis staff :)
Casa Santo Domingo is a masterful architectural restoration, among the 4-5 most spectacular hotels in which I've stayed in the 74 countries I have visited. The staff is extremely friendly and professional in every aspect. This is a property that should not be missed. Even people that don't stay there should visit to see the museums, chapels, crypts and galleries!
amazing view rooftop. Delicious and fresh breakfast! The staff was wonderful, they helped us with all our requests and scheduled all of our tours and transportation. The location couldn’t be better, walking distance from all the attractions. There is a nice brewery a couple doors down the hotel. We were two ladies traveling alone and fell safe the whole time.
The staff was absolutely the best. They helped us arrange out entire itinerary in Guatemala from Antigua to Volcano hike to Lake Atitlan and back, as well the transportation.
The rooms are modest but fit the purpose and the property is really nicely decorated.
There is also a rooftop cafe that has good food and great views.
Lovely design, gardens and understated but good swimming pool. Although the hotel is modern it is well designed to create a typical street and with exceptionally nice, well tended gardens. The restaurant is at first floor level, open and airy, and overlooks the gardens.
Very nice hotel comfortable clean room . Very nice staff , excellent location and excellent staff, smaller family business kind but met perfectly my expectations, walking distance from all the important landmarks in Antigua.
Gustavo was so accommodating! He helped me organize airport transportation and COVID testing for re-entry into the US. The staff was incredibly welcoming and showed me to my cute room and inviting shared garden space.
Very helpful and kind hosts. Arranged transportation from Guatemala City airport with no hassle, as well as transportation from Antigua to San Pedro. Great location, good recommendations on places to eat locally.
Overall a good stay. It’s a lively hostel mostly for younger people. Nice plentiful breakfast, good prices in the excursions and transportations, not far from the center hub, laidback coomon area. But..
Located very close to our vulcanotrip touroperator. Room was ready early and we could wash up after our vulcano trip. Good and friendly staff, also with booking for further transportation needs.
Lovely traditional style building in the heart of Antigua Guatemala. Great breakfast, great location, and staff were helpful in storing our bags ahead of check in/after check out.
