Rakalj is a relatively small village in Istria located in a region with limited tourism. Don't expect many special touristic attractions or pubs nearby. We were impressed by the striking silence when walking in nature or lying at the beaches nearby.
The basics are available: small supermarket with fresh bread each morning + 1 pub. For larger supermarkets you need to visit Pula (30' drive).
Roads are mostly small, but well maintained.
Rakalj is an ideal place if you like to visit a number of impressive small beaches. It might require some walking to reach reach some of them (not accessible by car). No sandy beaches available.
Too distant from Plivice to visit the waterfalls and nature parc in 1 day.
The rustic interior decor, tidy and clean rooms and isolation from the main road all add to the peaceful and serene atmosphere this property offers. There is a small convenience store nearby and it is open until 9 p.m. everyday.
The east coast of Istria can be easily explored from Rakalj, although a car is a must for a worry-free stay.
We spent a great holiday there. Rakalj is a very quiet and nice village with lovely beaches. The hosts are very nice, helpful and welcoming. Thank you for hosting us and for the delicious cake.
