Let’s start with the good stuff. The Fairlawn is an institution and I love staying here and reminiscing of times past some 20 years ago when we used to sit in the beer garden as non guests. I last stayed in 2019 with my then baby daughter after it had become part of the Elgin group, but before its renovations, and we enjoyed every moment. This time, I really appreciated the upgrade in rooms (we had room 17, the Shashi Kapoor room, a deluxe double), lovely decor and new chairs. Every member of staff we encountered at the Reception area was absolutely fantastic, very helpful and kind. The gentleman who showed us to our room was charming. The negative points in this review will not stop me staying here again but I really do hope staff standards are vastly improved. (Neither positive nor negative but pre-booking Uber for the 5am airport run was a dream and the two laundry shops on Chowingree Lane practically next to the hotel are recommended.)
