For those who are so every slightly interested in history,...

For those who are so every slightly interested in history, this is the place. The fort has 1300 years of history. From Bappa Rawal to Padmini to Rana Kumbha, Rana Sangha it is a treat to go and experience Chittorgarh. I only hope ASI which is maintaining the fort is more attentive to these historical monuments. The the Jauhar Kund I was told by the local guide was filled with soil and made into a garden for safety reasons of tourists with just a board. I'm not sure why barricading wasn't considered. The Vijay Stambh which is the most popular monument can only be viewed from outside. Earlier people could go up the 9 storied stambh. But since covid, this has stopped. I wish the authorities are more sensitive to these.

Its a story of courage and about the resilience they fought the attackers. Beautiful architecture be it VIjay Stambh or Kirti stambh or Mira temple. The campus however is not maintained well and the authorities need to start cleaning and maintaining it the way it should have been.

Chittaurgarh is definitely not an attractive town.

Chittaurgarh is definitely not an attractive town. Typical Indian town with no much to do or visit. Dirty and smelly. The fort is an ok visit IF you have not been in Kumbalgarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Fatehpur Sukri or Bikaner. From all of that list it was for sure the less interesting and from far. No reason to pay a lot of money for a day trip from Udaipur either. No idea why UNESCO is backing it as a world heritage. And be prepared to be scam by a guide who after negotiated a price won t mention that you will have to pay another fee for the rickshaw that will do the loop. Visit the fort without a guide. You go from one temple to another and if you have been in other temples, you already know everything. The palace is only a ruin place with remaining walls.

The fort was superb and the 3 hours we spent there was just enough time. The guide promised very good English and good guiding but we didn't find his guidance all that good. I'm not sure where we could get a better guide. Still, we enjoyed ourselves :)

    A living fort.

A living fort. A structure which sings tales of the ancient past. Of kings and tales from ancient Rajasthan and the middle ages. Of battles and of beauty (Padmini, the face that started a war which led to the the demise of an entire army on the battlefield and the subsequent committing of suicide by the women to avoid the horrors of being captured by the the invador who lusted after the her, after being captivated by her beauty).

visited the fort and spend a full day visiting the diffirent place inside the fort. must climb the vijay stambh till the top and view the city. light and sound show at the fort is a not upto the standard, we left after some time as it was more of story narration and shows was very limited. could have done much better with so much history.
