I might have stayed another night or two. We didn't have a chance to explore very far, and I had enough shopping. Our hotel had room service for food which was wonderful.
We ate at a rooftop fish restaurant and it was very bland. I was hoping for spicy food! Breakfast at Joes Cafe was good. It seemed to be the hot spot for Westerners.

It’s better to do the monuments early in the morning and hire a guide who will ride with you to take you to all the monuments as it’s too hot in June. It will take around 3 hours or more.
If you have nice zoo in your city for crocodiles and alligators then avoid the crocodile park as it doesn’t have anything special. Rest there’s nothing else to do in Mahabalipuram. Food in restaurants like A2b n all depends upon how clean you would like your food to be, I found the restaurant extremely crowded and unhygienic.

Very easy to walk about to all the major sights.
Very easy to walk about to all the major sights. No need for rickshaws unless you find walking arduous. They are available.
Some of the Kashmiri and Ladakhi shop owners really pushy. Most good humoured and we all know it’s a haggling game and people need to make a living. At the end of the day ask yourself how much you really want something and when you’ll be back. Most of these chaps send money home to families and travellers money main source of income
Go to Akka Creations on 39-48 Othavadai Street. The most amazing textile creations and fixed prices as manufactured by group of 100 or so women just out of Mahabs. I bought lots there including a beautiful elephant cushion cover for 500 rupees. Everything really well made.
Must place for authentic and tasty food is Mamalla Bhavan near bus station. A local institution that will not disappoint and cheap.

All the sight seeing places are well maintained by ASI, if you are passing by the road then one must visit the place as it will take only 2/3 hours to visit the place and will enjoy the humid climate.
I didn’t have breakfast or food at Vinodhara as I met a friend at another hotel and we ate in various other places in Mahabalipuram.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and accommodating. There were no issues with booking the taxi at 3am to Chennai airport, everything ran smoothly.
My room was basic but I had absolutely everything I needed: a comfy bed, a bathroom with hot water and a shower with good flow and a fan
It is one of the best locations in Mahabalipuram to relax. This property is really awesome .Very close and easily accessible to beach. Good place for a family get together. Breakfast spread was awesome. always ready for buggy service the property is so nice and clean to visit and this also got a beach restaurant to have some quality time
Perfect location on the main road down to the beach with many shops and restaurants in a short distance. Rooms were all very clean and everything worked.
Staff were very friendly and helpful with booking a car for the airport at a fair rate. Hotel is very good value for money, I am only sorry I didn't get chance to try the food.
Location of the property is good but the rooms are not well equipped it seems you are staying in a guest house and you are paying for 5 star.. The charges of this shelter beach Resort are too high as per the standard of the rooms .. prices should be half what they are charging for a standard room..
Excellent ambience. Good hospitality. Very good extensive range for breakfast. The resturant by the beach has some amazing aapam and stew. Infinity pool is good. The view from the hotel to the sea gives sense of openness. Enjoyed the stay. Was worth the shift from Intercontinental.
Brilliantly located, seconds walk from the beach and only a few minutes to the centre of Mahabalipuram. The room itself was extremely spacious, comfortable and clean. The AC kept me cool in the summer heat. Would highly recommend a stay here!
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Gave a real village feel, I enjoyed the walks through the paddy fields, milking the cow and making pots with clay. Food was good. The cultural evening was excellent. And just 5 kms from Mahabalipuram.
I would recommend this hotel.its newly constructed hotel and very neat and clean.Ower and Mr Dinesh were very humble and cooperative. All the places to visit in Mabs were at walking distance.i will definitely visit here again.
Best for family & good value for money. All places(Pancha Rathas, Shore Temple, Lighthouse) closeby. No dining available in the restaruant, but you can get a good hotel nearby. Many families stayed in the same hotel.
Liked the ambience of the hotel and surroundings, plants, location is good and close to beach and cafes. We would get up early in the morning and go to beach to enjoy sunrise at the beach. It is so convenient.
The property is located close to the beach.
It's also quite close to the main road in Mahabalipuram.
