This place is good value for the money we spent. It had comfortable beds and the breakfast was very good. We spent two nights here and we managed to see the Aurora Borealis - the Dancing Lights! They were magnificent! All the staff working there were very welcoming and helpful.

The location is awesome and easy to get to, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was convenient as it was right next door however we could hear staff get things ready in the morning (not really a huge issue). The room was quite small however was very clean, cozy and fit the bill. We were also able to access the common room /kitchen at the hostel which was a nice perk

    We have laundry service for our customer. It costs 2 400 isk for washing and drying (1 200 isk for each) for one regular plastic bag. You can get the bag in our reception, fill it up, bring it back and we will take care of your laundry.

Company info

Hlíð Ferðaþjónusta is a complex of accommodation on the northern shore of lake Mývatn, right beneath the airport. We are situated about one kilometer away from the lakeside, in the middle of a 300 years old lava field and with a fantastic view over the lake. We offer: 🚍campground. The electricity is accessible and warm showers are free of charge for guests. 🛏 sleeping bag accommodation or Family Rooms with bedlinen included in our Hostel, 🥞 Bed&Breakfast option, 🏠 fully equipped summerhouses with a wonderful view over the lava field. You can rent bikes for either one day or ½ a day. Maps with hiking and bike routes are available from our service center. A wonderfully scenic 37 km long country road runs around the lake, ideal for biking. You can book a riding tour on an Icelandic horse with us and we will take you through the stunning surroundings of lake Mývatn, ranging from one and up to several hours.

Double rooms with private bathroom We offer hotel-accommodation in nine double rooms with made up beds and private bathrooms, breakfast is included. The rooms are in three buildings in a cluster. Two of the buildings have four bedrooms and the third building has one bedroom and a breakfast room. The rooms are small (12m2) but cosy and with all basic facilities. The paved area between the houses offers an excellent site to relax outdoors with garden chairs and tables. The breakfast room is available as a living room during the day or at night.
