We loved staying in this historic apartment above the oldest bookstore in Iceland. It is quite an authentic experience with original furniture and creaky floors, beautifully decorated small rooms.

Fascinating B&B in the picturesque and welcoming town of Flateyri! Spent extra time just taking in all the little details of the room, kitchen, and sitting area -- it is like a time capsule of life in the Westfjords 50+ years ago. We enjoyed...

This place is adorable and the proprietor is very proud of his family's heritage here and he'll tell you all about it if you visit him in the book store downstairs. And you should because it's a really cool shop.

It was a very cozy setting, and the owner of the bookstore couldn’t have welcomed us with more warmth than he showed. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was quaint.

Generous included breakfast, super friendly and helpful host. Beautifully furnished rooms with lots of love and character. View was stunning. It's a long drive to the West Fjords, but we felt it was worth it for such a special place.

Welcome to the Old Bookstore in Flateyri. The oldest original store in Iceland, fourth generation family store since 1914. - This old, unique and quirky apartment was build in the year 1898 and was the home of the founder of the Old Bookstore in Flateyri for 70 years. This historical apartment is located in the same house as the Old Bookstore with amazing view over the ocean and mountains that surround the fjord. If you are looking for a stay in rooms with boring white walls with no soul, you should look somewhere els. But if you love to travel to experience something unique, authentic and truly historical you will find that and much more by staying at the Old Bookstore in Flateyri. The small guest house at the Old bookstore has only three double bedrooms, but two shared bathrooms, one old (1956) with WC and a bathtub and one new (2022) with WC and good shower. The guest house has fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room for guests to enjoy there stay.
Eyþór is the fourth generation bookstore owner. He is running the guesthouse with his partner, Elín. Eyþór is educated architect and film director as well as running the Old Bookstore in Flateyri. Elín is a nurse in Ísafjörður hospital.
Amazing landscape, great people and artistic environment. - What more can you ask for? This tiny village (pop. 200) has the Oldest original store in Iceland as well as one of the oldest and most legendary pub and concert venue in Iceland, Vagninn. This old and historical fishing village in the Westfjords is now the home of many artist and a artistic Folk high school. The main street of Flateyri is one of the oldest and best preserved original street in Iceland, where most of the houses where build around 1880. On the street you will find coffee houses, bars, restaurants and shops that are open daily in the summertime but during the winter the opening may vary. Experience the long and bright summer nights at 66°N or spend your time here in the winter darkness in the snow, under the northern lights. - We love it both!
